I just bought Jason Isbell's new album called HERE WE REST by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. Jason was the third guitar player, vocalist and songwriter in Drive By Truckers in the early-mid 2000's. He wrote two of my favourite DBT songs of all time: "Outfit" and "Decoration Day" (both on the "Decoration DAy" album which you really should go out and buy right now.

Jason left DBT when his marriage to their bass player imploded, and "Creative differences" arose. He has released two other records, "Sirens of the Ditch" and "Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit".

I've only given it one run through so far, but like it.

Just to digress, the thing I miss pretty much the most after the EQ? there are NO fucking record stores in this town. Not proper record stores anyway: I used to spend a lot of time and money at Real Groovy, and Galaxy. I fucking hate chain stores, and Marbecks can suck my ballsack. Any one in a mall is just a mall shop: an outlet for cut price DVD's and shitty top 40 crap.

Ive been buying off Real Groovy online, and off artists websites. Which is good except you end up getting YET ANOTHER T shirt at the same time. Having said that, I got Jason's album on vinyl, a T shirt, a bonus 7 inch single, and a download card for a legit digital copy of the album for ~$50 NZD.

Anyway, here's "Outfit", and "Alabama Pines"

    this is a live version.

    Here's the original studio version:

that's me you hear, singing along.

OK, here's the "single" off the new record:

his solo stuff is less rock and roll, bit slower and more introspective IMO. Great lyrics though

Cheers HDC. Hadnt heard of Jason Isbell till your post.
Im hearing the original / Auckland Real Groovy is the sole survivir of the mini chain......recent article somewhere - last week I think the owner was interviewed somewhere, and theres no chance of him expanding any time soon.
www.audioenz.co.nz should link you up to some good catalogues - unless you already have them.

Bjork - one of those love or hate artists. I couldnt stand her music till a couple of years ago - am now a devoted listener.

Plays best on a good system though - not suitable for ipods or youtbue really...
