    Immigration question

Does anyone have any experience in this area??

Without disclosing tooooo much information, a person has hinted a marriage of convenience in order to stay in the country. However I understand the other person has to be a citizen rather than just a resident? The chances of this person doing a runner with the new found 'green card' is about 50/50 in my mind.

Run for the hills or buy a lotto ticket?

Edit: I have no intention of entering into a marriage of connivence - I am more concerned about if it is possible.

What would happen if a sprog was entered into the equation? Is that an instant ticket also??

Run for the hills. If you're going to get married, do it with someone you really trust and truly love.

My friend ( lady) is married to a gay man. Thats his ticket into the country. The wedding ring is plastic.

Immigration Authorities frown on such marriages, flight ticket out for one, jail for the other, and kiwi passport for the sprog.

Correct. It only gives you the right to "apply" for citizenship.

As SHE said, thanks... Never knew I sounded so manly...

And yeah, Dan... I'd just avoid it. If the kid's yours, then by all means it'd be good for it to have it's Dad near, but a false relationship isn't worth the risk - kids can survive in one parent families if they're given the support to. Chances are these days that the marriage would end in divorce anyway, and then she'd have the opportunity to make off with half your stuff.

Plus, as FJ points out, you'd run the risk of jail.

Yup, don't forget the "take half your stuff" - it is a real marriage in terms of the law, and all that implies when it falls over. I know of at least one case where very shortly after the immigration approval and passport arrived, the loving Warehouse Wife emptied the house contents, bank accounts, visa cards and everything else and was gone to Oz with her Thai bit on the side. The man was not happy with the outcome, being left with all the bills. Another case at least had the decency to do the divorce first, but the outcome was the same. Half a house, and a conniving gold digger set up very nicely in NZ.

Convenience or Connivance?? Little difference in this sort of situation, and soon seen through by Immigration.

Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Actually connivance might be exactly the right word since my dictionary lists connive as to give aid to wrongdoing.

As my Son-in-Law can attest! He hopes to finally get his residency sometime this year. It's cost him a bomb and taken over two years so far. He's from Germany, well qualified and as soon as his residency comes through his boss will offer him a full partnership in the business!

Still had to go through all the same hoops!

Or you could do what Iranian girls / women do. Grow up here, go visit the motherland, get married to some bloke you've known for all of twenty minutes and he then pays you (between $20,000 and $50,000 apparently) tp apply for residence for him. After the obligatory two=year stay, get divorced and Iranian blokey stays on in NZ.

Get no less than 10k out of her. Then move house, change name and if needed a sex change.
    You'll be laughing.
