    Hi,

meeting from 10am at the New World Carpark
    on the 24th February
    departing for Whakatane 11am .
The route is along open highway and through a couple of local towns, so a stagered riding pattern will be adopted by the riders taking part in this event. Normal road rules will apply for this ride.

We look forward to having you join with us in this great cause if any of your members will be able to make it.

Its a pleasant day with the end being at the beach this year.
I'll be home soon from India, after a shower I wont smell too bad either.
hopefully next year we get to have the weekend back to ourselves again.
Looking forward to seeing you all over our way on the 24th

We had our date set last year and all the advertising was already out when the Westpac dates were released shame though, still expecting 100 - 150 bikes.

While the rest of the country suffers under unseasonal conditions we have dry roads, similar weather is forecast for tomorrow but we will see on the day. Its still on rain hail snow or shine.

We have 86 prizes to give away that have been donated by local business.
Most who turn up and buy a badge for $10 will walk away with something. This aspect makes our ride a bit different from most.

The Cubs are doing the BBQ to help fill that empty void, and local cafes will be able to provide the coffee to help with them shakes. Put that loose change into your pocket so one will have something to put in the bucket for the Brain Injury Assoc. that will be doing the rounds

We have another category for the most unusual bike, so bring out them rare and wonderful bikes from yesteryear or your rat bikes that are road worthy. The trophy is up for grabs kindly donated by Custom Mufflers in Whakatane. The winner of this trophy will be one of concensus from Whakatane Ulysses club members, no bribes or inducements will be admitted to on the day.

So much for the great weather, light drizzle most of the morning after some torrential downpours throughout the night.

I was not sure how many would turn up, but turn up they did, 64 in all braved the elements and came out to play. Riders from Hamilton, Napier, Taupo, Tauranga and even Auckland with the furtherst travelled from Auckland just piping the ones from Napier for the prize and claiming the BP petrol vouchers for $50.

The classic bikes stayed inside safe from the elements, or so it seemed as the oldest bike was a 1978 Vespa that took home the $100 voucher from Mitre ten.

It was our own club member Bruce that once again took out the oldest rider prize, Just a young and spritely 82yrs 11 months and 23 days old biker who still enjoys throwing a leg over one of the passions of his life.

It was a quick drawing of the spot prizes donated by our sponsors, to beat the approaching rain that we had just riden through moments earlier. Everyone went home with something including a full stomach from the cullanary prowress on the BBQ of our local Cub Troop. The most unusual bike trophy went to a chopper with a huge rear end, a great looking machine.

If one is ever down our way call into Thumpers a new cafe and bike (Harley) shop opened in McAllistar St Whakatane, great food and service. Check it out you wont be dissapointed.
