Yes thats the Catalina ZK-PBY. A great bird to fly in - I took my 2 eldest sons on their first ever flight in it about 11 years ago.
We had Americarna here from wed to today so I have similar pics of Hot Rods & other 'merkin vehicles.

Was good seeing the old plane circling bout....hope ya got the pics on line. I would love to see em

The Thunderbird CB and I have is a hard-top model of that one, same colour but black padded vynil roof. (Officially a 1966 Ford Thunderbird Town Landau)

EDIT: Oops, on the second look I realised the one in the pic is a '65 - just in case the pedants are lurking!)

Nice looking set of wheels....would Love to see yours one day Scummy...Next time I am in the Riviera of the South must check it out.

Incedently my daughter took that photo. She is starting to become a budding photographer. She takes a few of the pics when we are together at car shows!

Apparently, this is it....I'm praying that a 1/43 scale model doesn't turn up instead

I love all the ol' muscle cars from that era, be it from MOPAR, Uncle Henry or the General but the only way I could talk my prettier half into the deal was that she gets to veto the selection and she likes the 69-70 'Stangs. A shame, as I lurve the Challengers, then my Mrs pointed out that they look like a 2 door XB Falcon....and now I'll be damned if that's all I can see when I look at one....yeah, thanks for ruining it for me Luv.....

It's a real stretch for us (like we need another debt...) but we figured if we don't do it now then we never will, not the way everything from that pre-pollution, pre-oil crisis era is appreciating.

Very Nice. For me what does it the most is a '58 Oldsmobile 88, but all the olds from the late 50s were good.

Had a look at a couple like that while I was in the States - pretty soon figured I'd get more 'bang for my buck' buying something like the Thunderbird I got - plus look at the number of 'stangs for sale in NZ these days - sure I love 'em but getting passe' in my eyes.

BTW When I bought my F100 ($1095!) I could have bought any one of three Mustangs at the same car yard for $3,000+- back then!!

There are a heap of nice cars over there that I'd sell my first born child for, but sadly they are rocketing further and further out of our price range, hence we had to make do with something a bit more run of the mill. Should still be good fun to cruise around in though.

Still good cars at modest prices - but they're not where most of the importers go.

Pomona Swap Meet is a classic place for all sorts of cars in shoddy condition at ludicrous prices, the old story - it's right there on front of you, no seeking the cars out - and it has a large 'target audience'.

And has a lot of dreamers trying to sell.

As you are allowed to import/sell 1 car per year per person I'm thinking it could be a nice lil' earner every year. Between a couple you can import 2 cars per year and make a few bucks each time while having something cool to enjoy until you are able to sell it. You could easily fund a buying trip/holiday every year plus a bit leftover from the profits.

Not to mention the selection over there is huge....whereas trying to find an affordable 69-70, 4 speed, with disc brakes, in NZ, in good nick, was impossible.

Yeah, we found lots of junkers being imported, a few high dollar superb restorations but not much in between hence we are importing our own. If it all works out OK we hope to get a bit more serious about it as a pure money making exercise.

Mustangs like you described are hard to find and will take time - AND even there ain't cheap. Time is money = lots of easily-found-but-scruffy-cars sent to NZ.

I did a bit of homework and figured it was better to look a bit harder and pay a tad more to buy a car needing the minimum of work to make it look good and get it vinned.

Looked at a few 'birds of various years and added up dash-pad, carpet, interior door-panels etc etc and realised that while they were a good sound car it was going to cost a lot of $$$ to get them looking like my present T'bird - and even it ain't perfect.

I found with Mustangs there is a pecking order in order of $$.
Six-cylinder notchback in rogh condition = cheap as chips
Six-cylinder in good driveable condition = a bit more cost
Six-cylinder with fast-back = up a few more dollars than the equal condition notch-back.
Six-cylinder convertible worth a lot more than the hard-top equivalent.
and so on through the range (i.e small V8's then manuals then bigger V8s')with GT's etc being more costly and convertibles top of the heap.

And the market is getting flooded with 'stangs yet for some unknown reason they're all top $$?? Go figure.
