Sorry to hear that Fireball. ANd I get the can't grip a bottle thing, I couldn't hold coffee cups, raise my arms above my shoulders and the biggest shit of all was that I couldn't pop my own wine bottles...how sucky!

All jokes aside though this is a shitty injury that is not obvious to others and sorry but you got it forever and will need to manage it always now that you've had it.

I had to do the 'change careers' thing, in my case it was a total blessing because it got me into an office and onto a more stimulating career than I might have considered otherwise. Funnily enough too though I was warned off PC work I've never had any issues prob cos I don't have to strike the pos that caused my nerve damage and postural issues and before you all jump on that I was a DENTAL chairside assistant for a right prick of a guy, who wouldn't adjust so that seating arrangements in the surgery over patients were comfortable. still glare at that bugger when I see him.

Anyway, the most helpful thing you can do for yourself is to treat this as an opportunity to try something else. You said you have some teaching quals...can I ask if you got out of teaching kids because you don't like kids that much? If the answer is yes...as mine also is...look into teaching adults. There are employers out there that hire trainers and pay for further education also - call centres for large banks are an excellent place to look into...and many of the large organisations are getting into workplace training and learning so you can study while on the job and they pay and you get quals.

Anyway - rabbitted on too long - good luck and may the force be with you

i got out of instructing due to the adults looking at me as if i was some kid telling them what to do. i love teaching high ropes and ABL but when you are as small as i am look like you should still be at primary school you get treated like shit, also there are not many job opportunities out there.
it really sucks but hey at least when im 60 ill look 21.

I'm with the folks who suggest an interval of study and a new career focus, fireball.

With that injury, some sort of office job is probably going to suit you best.

Have you thought about looking into secretarial work? There are some fairly good one-year courses offered at the likes of UNITEC that'll leave you well-qualified, as far as I'm aware.

I worked as a part-time legal secretary to pay my way through uni. It's a good way to earn a low-stress living without having to think too hard.

Try being 18 and the boss of a crew ranging from 25 to 60 then!

I know how ya feeling about being told get out of your line of work, heard the same thing from the doc 18 months back, but I'm still trying to figure out what to do. The thing is though there are options for me, I just have to get out of holliday mode.

Good luck with your decision mate.
