Ego doesn't come into it. I'd happily ride a single cylinder thumper. Fantastic fuel economy and so forth.

It's still going to set me back 1500-2000 dollars. This bike, being an air-cooled second hand single, is likely to have about 30000km left of life in it. Resale value after this point is going to be nil.

It's not going to be as reliable as a corolla, I can't carry passengers, and I'm closer to getting my car full than my motorcycle. All consumables are going to be more expensive than the car equivalent.

ohh PLEASE dickhead--Tell the story of the bike with a ADVERTISED dead engine you bought from me . DO tell how you said cash up front but took over a month to pay up DO tell how you ignored ALL advise DO tell how there is a dismantler in Takinini who wants to crush your balls in a vice for NOT giving him the chance to exchange a motor he sold in good faith.
DO tell how YOU fucked the motor by dropping parts down the bore.
DO tell about the bike YOU extensively restored yet turned up at TD6 with a swingarm bolt finger tight
    Go on Mark tell
    PS--all documented on KB
