CB600 Hornet Fuel Mystery

My wife rides a 1998 CB600 Hornet. It gets about 200km before going onto reserve and only takes 10-11L of petrol if she tanks straight away. Now, the Hornet has a 17L tank with a 3L reserve according to the literature. If this is the case then why does it only take 10L at reserve? If the reserve tank incorrectly calibrated? Is it possible to change the calibration to reduce the size of the reserve tank?

Fuel capacity is 16L, a 6L reserve is still a bit extreme though.

Didn't got to 17 until the early noughties.

2 options-1) its got a bloody big dent in the tank or 2-yep reserve is set too high.
In essence the way reserve works is that there are two tubes inside the fuel tap.
One tube is longer than the other.
Chop the longer tube down a bit shorter abd bingo -bigger main tank and smaller reserve.
Its often not quite that simple-with both tubes encased in a mesh filter

I've seen people with funny-shaped tanks complain about air bubbles being trapped, thus reducing their fuel capacity. They needed to rock the bike side-to-side to make sure fuel got sloshed around the whole tank.
