Thank you KB, Learning the skills!

Sitting here tonight having a beer..
was thinking of the past few months that I have been reading the posts in this forum, mainly the survival threads
Then reflecting on my riding ability, which I guess is probably average.
Since Nov 07, I have been to a few organised rides, plus 5 Ralleys.
All in assiciation with at least 5 KB riders or more.
The information that has been posted on this forum in regaurds to,
counter steering, emergancy braking, target fixation, throttle control, cornering techniques, how to avoid road rage plus other very interesting threads,
are all what I now concider a must read for all riders, new and long time.
I have read and experimented with ideas that have been put forward,
not discounting anything till I have tried it.
The result has been that I now enjoy riding my old girl so much better than ever, feel so much more confident with her and are more aware of the dangers that I need to be on watch for when out enjoying the road.
I live on SH1, so its 100kph from the gate!
I thought , (with much ego and cheast beating) that i was a good rider(20+years worth), I found that I paled into the realm of a "wanna be" after learnig some simple lessons from this forum.
The " all the gear all the time " thread, never doubted this at any time!
The " What is the best colour" thread, sorry rainbow dressers, IMHO BLACK
The "counter steering" thread, made my corners fun.
The "braking" thread showed me how to stop in half the distance ( with practice of course)
The "how to ride smooth" thread made me faster, not slower
The "how to set up you suspension" discussions, allowed me to change and cure the wallow my bike had in corners.
The "target fixation" thread , made me realise that things can be different and possums are not just Hawk fodder.
The "throttle control" thread made me think of how to go fast without consuming excessive quantites of fuel and lots of brake pads.
The " get your ass off the seat thread" wow, my old girl can get around the corners faster than I thought! And chicken strips are not for loosers!
The " get that knee down' Yeah right! no way!! Untill I tried it. Um err Fackin awsome feeling! Got grass burns from turning left!!
But of all the threads comments and advice, the one sentance that did the most was. "when looking ahead around a corner, point you chin in the direction you want to go and you will go there"
So, look where you wanna go, get off the seat, get your knee down, all good yes, but I tried the "point your chin" .........................
An extra 40kph around a corner that I normally take at 100kph, without even thinking about it! I could not believe it,
So I stopped, rode back 2 k, and tried it again! It worked! Did it two more time, just to see if it was a fluke! Damb You guys know your business!!
Thank you to all those who put the effort into posting information that makes our riding lives so much more fun, safe and enjoyable
I do not think that I am an "experianced rider" anymore, Im on a big learning curve, and all you guys are my assistants.
I could fall off tomorrow and trash my ride, but at least I know that the saftey margin is way better than it use to be.
So to all you young fellows ( young as in riders that are learning, not age in years)
LISTEN TO THOSE WHO COMMENT ON THIS PLACE
Look at the vidios posted, they contain lessons words cannot discribe.
The wealth of knowlage within these pages is worth reading every thread, every sentance, and practicing what is suggested
    Thank you, and
    GIVE ME MORE!
    I wanna learn
    But !!!!
    Practice Practice Practice!!
I cannot say ever, that I have had enough practice, and i know how to ride, tomorrow I will do more!
    Cheers!!
    Now wheres that beer!
To be old and wise, first you must be young and stupid.
