Making life harder for crooks and people who are uninsured, or legally not allowed to drive

I have mixed feelings...it might make the roads safer, but it is too much of a "Big Brother" thing

In this country isnt there a law that says television type displays must not be visible from the drivers seat? I know a guy I work with who'se Jap import has a navigation display has to have the display folded down while driving (it only shows maps of Tokyo anyway so no great loss, but...)
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!

    Yes. They specifically mention registration.

They even picked up a wanted person, so I would imagine it also checks registered owner details

Anything that helps to take crims off our roads sounds good to me.
The greatest pleasure of my recent life has been speed on the road. . . . I lose detail at even moderate speed but gain comprehension. . . . I could write for hours on the lustfulness of moving swiftly.

"Help keep 'the crims off our roads" ?

I don't count refusal to pay exorbitant ACC levies and therefore not registering a bike as 'criminal'.

But somehow I don't think this spyware isn't gonna differentiate between the degrees of lawbreaking.

Your allowed to NOT pay it, you just aint allowed to ride it as well.
So if you don't pay it..NO CRIME...if you ride it on the road without it ....CRIME.
I got no problems with it to be honest.

Yes of course I realise that.

But my point was that there are degrees of lawbreaking and I think this technology should be aimed at the REAL crims. ya know? the ones driving stolen vehicles, or the ones with warrants for their arrest...that sort of thing.
If its gonna be used with no discretion then its not a new crime fighting weapon, its just another revenue gatherer.

    Just my opinion.

Ya probably right. think it will just make the job easier in actual fact. No change for me, life goes on as usual.
