YouTube vids and encoding and uploading?

what do people use to encode videos before uploading to you tube?

I have some 7-8 min videos which I am uploading at the moment.

They are coming off the camera at 320x240 with audio at 8bit 64kbps. Frame rate is 30 with a data rate of 284kbps. File size around the 300meg

Encoding with womble to DivX with following settings.
    320x240
    audio 55kbps mp3
    frame 30
    data rate 102kbps 24bit DivX
    file around 50meg

    Takes 90 mins to upload.

Suggestions on encoding smaller without too much loss of quality Vs file size?

Last time I saw this discussed was in a thread about helmet cameras, Ill see if I can find it and throw up a link.

Here it is if you want to wade through it, I asked a couple of people what there encoding process was.

One thing you may want to try is encoding the audio into mono.

Do you have an example of your uploads?

    You Tube recommends mpeg 4.

The best way to minimize loss is make the source vid the same size as you tube displays it.
