Thumbs down Nice R1 in Hamilton

Saw a very nice R1 tonight in Hamilton However,

the person was clearly speeding and when a car pulled out from a side street the rider had a fit?! Clearly the motorcyclist was in the wrong and its not often that I admit it but I do not see how the motorcyclist can contest they were in the right ? Why do we speed in built up areas and then expect everybody to just stop dead in their tracks?

I thought the rider would have taken the warning, yet less than two hours later they took off like a madman (wtf?!)

Who let SkidMark loose in H-town on a R1 lol jj buddy

I'm not defending the rider here - but a give way sign does mean "Give way to all traffic." - regardless of its speed.

Getting a fit when people misjudge your inappropriate speed is a bit hypocritical though!
It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)

yes I do understand the Give Way rule and I'm not defending either the driver or rider but doing 80km/hr or so in a 50 is a lil quick especially when I saaw the actions after the car pulled in front! Speeding or failing to give way?! Hmmm they do come hand in hand.

In this instance the motorcyclist had just gone through a roundabout and the car would have had trouble seeing the bike fly through the roundabout and onto the road where they were attempting to pull out of maybe 200mtres after the intersection

What a lot of new ish bikers don't realise is often in bulit up areas for cages its a case of you see them but they don't see you.

I doubt that in this case shaking a fist at the driver will do any good. If there was a crash both the cager and biker would probably be charged with something eg speeding versus careless use.

There is a particularly nasty accident site at a junction round here where there is a dip in the main road. If you are waiting on a side road and a bike is coming towards you, the dip obscures all but the helmet and shoulders of the biker for a split second. If the bike is going too fast, there would be no time to react. I take a lot of care through that section because I don't trust the drivers to do the right thing.

I don't believe in the "speed kills" bullshit.
And I can think of an occassion or two where I might just even have exceeded 60 km/h in a 50 km/h zone

However, no matter what the speed limit is, and how much you exceed it by, you (and only you) have the resposibility of being able to respond safely to any unforeseen obstruction.

At the end of the day, being found "not at fault" in court isn't going to save your day if you've been seriously injured or worse.

    Haven't you just contradicted yourself?

If you are doing big numbers in built-up arrears, then cars just do not pull out in front of you.! They do see you way down the road and think they have time to go, based on the usual flow of traffic. Next thing the bike is right on top of them.

It is not the driver's fault at all if the bike is speeding.

Would you also expect all traffic to give way to you if you were doing 200kph through the main street of town?

Another example that a good number of motorcyclists are complete dicks.

I would never do 200 km/h through the main street of town!

Oh, so you do accept that at a certain level above the speed limit, other traffic shouldn't be expected to give way to you?

So what is that threshold? The OP in this thread estimated the R1 was doing 80 in a 50 zone. What if the actual speed was closer to 90 km/h.? That is nearly twice the posted speed limit and the usual flow rate of traffic. All other traffic will be underestimating the gap they need from you by about half. Your fault, not theirs.
