Re WOFs, it strikes me that if you want to stay safe - go to a bike shop:

In my humble experience, bike shops check what matters for your safety and will fail you if your bike truly isn't up to scratch. Bike shops will usually let you off the minor stuff too (Park lights, after market bits, LOUD zorsts ) .

If you want a quick, dodgy WOF more than likely issued by someone that's never thrown a leg over a bike - go to a testing station. If you want to stay rubber side down, go to a bike shop. My 2 cents...
