I've always done general bike maintenance myself. If you take it to a mechanic and ask for a service, what exactly does a "service" encompass and how much does it generally cost?
Do they just change the oil?

oil, oil filter, and just the check over the bike, lube what needs lubing adjust what needs adjusting, tighten what needs tighten. later stages need valves etc checked.
Handy if you can find service manual for ya bike so know what needs replacing at what stage (plugs, air filter)
If you can get a Workshop Manual for your bike, you can do all of the service tasks yourself. The right 'Service' for your bike will be dependent upon the # of KMs you have done. All parts have a recommended maintinance life and the full manual will tell you what to change and when to do it, plus all the correct lube points.
Having quite a new bike, you may have trouble getting the full manual. Also, if you don't get a dealer stamp in you may invalidate the warrantee.
Good luck.
What do they normally cost?
The definition of the word "service" seems to vary depending on the milage of the bike. Suzuki for example has a service schedule for their bikes. Some services are little more than a check over and oil n filter others are the full kahuna
To see a life newly created. To watch it grow and prosper. Isn't that the greatest gift a human being can be given?
a service also depends on what you ask for. I normally go through with the mechanic about what needs to be looked at in the service and how often .. that way I know what is going on .. I just had a service - oil filter/oil change/air filter/brakes/check clutch and wires all operational/change headlight lamp/check chain/lube chain/fix seat (wouldn't come off) and ensure that I am ok to go on a 2000+ ride over the next week.
they prolly checked and that other stuff ... but it was a definate service![]()
for a full service, if you want to know what it includes, go ask your mecanic. you can get a list and then tick the ones you want. remember spark plugs are $20 each. Air filter is $50+ oil is $35-50 (more for hardkore stuff) oil filter is $10 etc etc. Labour is $60/hr could take up to 3 hrs.
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot
You'd better be careful with this talk of "full service". In some parts of the world it means something rather different.
my last service cost me $150 i think and thats just basic plug oil filter retune all the things i could do myself but am to lazy to do...
now the bike is in getting a new head put on i will have empty pockets and be missing a leg and a few fingers
I've learnt to hide the pain inside, open the throttle and ride away.
