    Knock-in period for a new 2008 250R Ninja?

    Hey,

Just would like to know how many km's will i have to knock in the new engine before i can start driving it normally , and what is the maximum rev i can take the new engine up to whilst in the knock in period?

And generally after how many km's will the bike have to be serviced?

    Thanks.

I havent heard the term 'knocking in' when referring to a new bike before...

The shop that sold ths bike to you should have told you all this upon you picking it up/ delivery. Or it should be in your owners manual......

There are many differing opinions on how to wear in a new engine. Some will say dont rev it to high take it easy for the first XXX km's others will say wear it in how you intend on riding it.... Up to you to make that decision, there are many a thread on here about it. I remember starting one 3 or so years ago when I first joined up.

First service, I think is around 1000 k's....

Enjoy your new bike, there are really cool little bike!

friend bought one and was told:

under 4000rpm for the first 800km
    under 6000rpm for 800-1600km

edit: but there's more than one school of thought on this subject

RTFM! Oh wait you haven't bought it yet

Do some searches on running in. Two schools of thought - follow the manual or rape it. But the commonalities seem to be not labouring the engine (ie dont accelerate or cruise in too low a gear), and vary the revs when you are riding.

I've learnt to hide the pain inside, open the throttle and ride away.
