    Herceptin peaceful protest ride

Hey there, angels. This event takes place in March next year, and all women are welcome (as are all men!). Even if you can't be a part of it as a rider or pillion, can you help spread the word, as in take a minute or two to checkout the website (www.herceptinriders.co.nz) and email the link to everone you know, and ask them to do the same and keep it going around? Even if all some people can do is download one petition form off the site, get 25 signatures on it then post it to the address on the bottom, that will be a big help. This event is not about any one person, its about an issue that stands to affect almost everyone in New Zealand eventually, directly or indirectly, if we can't change the status quo. Please could you take a couple of minutes to let your fingers do the walking (or the double clicking?) and gimme a leg-up on this?
    Cheers.

Can't imagine you won't get plenty of support on this. One of my teachers at school passed away a few years from breast cancer, and she has - had - three or four kids, one my age and whom I was friends with for a few years. I'd be happy to do what I can in her memory, she was an amazing lady and one of my favourite mentors. Our entire community was devestated when she died.

I've just had a look through the website, looks like an event that could create a lot of awareness. Good luck to you and the participants!

I did notice on the Downloads page that registrations are closing 30 November 2007? Is this correct? You may need to extend that for some who have just heard about it via Kiwi Biker.

Awesome Idea for a great cause. I hope you get a great turnout. I won't be able to get the time off work but will look at getting the word out there.
    Have a safe ride.

Yeah, massive thanks go to all of you who help spread the word. Bush telegraph seems to work pretty well among various clubs etc that talk to one another. I tried to get Kiwi Rider magazine, as the most logical entity, to help me promote this as far as it needs to go, since they seem to like to call themselves "NZ's leading source of motorcycle related news...." etc, but since they've persistently ignored me for two whole months now I've pretty much given up. Even a straighforward "piss off Max" would have been more respectful to the kiwi women and their families who need this thing to happen than absolutely zero response to ANY of my attempts to contact them by email, telephone and letter. Dunno what their problem is, really, and I'm a bit too busy to dwell on it other than to say that a bunch of "literary chestbeaters" running a show like Kiwi Rider might say something about its sensitivity to women's issues in general, and God bless whatever their intelligence levels happen to be, but I suspect that the point (erm... that this whole issue is about more than just women with breast cancer???) seems to have sailed right over their heads. Ha!... I have to tell ya, too, that its turning out to be an interesting process, finding out who is and isn't what they hold themselves up as, out there, when it comes to getting real help for an issue like this one. Its also been hugely humbling to see the efforts made and the resources donated by small players who genuinely want to do whatever they can to help, in all kinds of ways. Anyway, the upshot of it all is I've decided to stop buying Kiwi Rider from now on, and I've lifted the deadline on the ride so the news has time to spread by slower but probably just as effective means, and more registrations are coming thru. Those who can't come on the ride can still help us out with the petition thing, as a big wadge of completed lists we can slap at the head-up-the-arse polly-tishins on the day can only help, so download it, flick it to everyone you know and ask them to do the same. Like I think I've said elsewhere on this forum, if we get some success with this event, it could pave the way for better access to ALL cancer drugs, and lift our status above "second-worst country in the civilized world" for access drugs to fight so many types of the disease.
    Thanks again.

They are still taking registrations for this

    Hey all,

They are still taking registration for this ride, I am looking for a corporate sponsor and going to use the attaches as my setup. I have already approached a couple of companies and have some interest.

Best places will be companies that have pokie machines as they have to re-invest the money somewhere.

You are more than welcome to use this as well.. Hope you don't target the same companies that I have..

    attention please, riders

A national women's magazine has emailed me to see if anyone coming on this event currently has breast cancer or has had it in the past, as they would like to do a story about it to tie in with what we're doing. Otherwise, I'd like to hear from any guys coming who may have lost someone to this disease, or who is riding in support of someone they love. Its not something I want to front up and ask any specific person, as its private info for yourselves but if any of you are interested in contributing in this way, it could provide a good platform for raising money for your own treatment, as well as helping highlight the issue in general. PM me here or email me thru the weblink at www.herceptinriders.co.nz to discuss this opportunity further on a confidential level.

    t-shirts for sale

Supporters t-shirts are now for sale for this event, check out the website to see about them. They are white with cerise pink cartoon, 20 bucks apiece plus postage, and they look GREAT. Thanks again to Dean Raybould, the cartoonist who has donated his time and skills to creat a unique political cartoon especially for the Herceptin Riders. Proceeds from the sale of the shirts will go towards boosting funds for someone who may be struggling to raise their sponsorship to come on the ride. If you can't come, support us anyway. Buy a t-shirt, be part of something great, spread the word and make it possible for someone else to come instead of you, to help us deliver that all-important message for every woman who needs it now and for those who will in the future.

Even as a guy, i fully support this cause. I've had many an argument with people convincing them that it is worth supporting mass availability of herceptin. Unfortunately as a student, uni and my bank account will clash with the ride. I will spread the word though!

Thanks, Drider, that will help. If everyone emails the web link to everyone they know and asks them to do the same, bush telegraph will gain its own momentum.

If you can scrape together enuff student pennies (know what its like, been there myself) you could maybe buy one of the supporters t-shirts! Or haul a petition around uni...
Cheers, good luck with your courses, and thanks for the encouragement.
