If you have an idea as to the diameter and length of said fastener I will source for you. Have a collection of all commonly available plastic screws.

I actually have to tighten them every couple of rides out. It really depends on how much opening and closing I have done as that is what works them loose I think.

It was so hot riding down on Friday and spending all that time in shitty city traffic the visor got a real work out. Then down to Hamilton, the trusty visor was up and down like a yoyo.

My fault entirely, I knew it was not right when we stopped in Hamilton the first time and did not check, stopped again and did not check, then stopped for the last time took the helmet off and the lock mech dropped off at my feet.

Lesson learned, I am just pleased that you can get the screws without the whole visor assmbley.

SPB the screw is flat headed and the slot on the top is a cross, I usually use a 5c coin to tighten them up, so the slots are wide. I have never taken the screws out so have no idea how long they are or what the thread size is.

I've had a Raid, a Raid II and now an XR-1000. Each has been subjected to thousands of moderately-violent flippings up and down, without a single change in the feel or performance of the visor locking mechanism.

I must admit; I now harbour a deep and troubling suspicion that you and Graham are closet helmet-abusers.

What I have had happen is the threads on those plastic screws stretch with over tightening.
then they never seem to stay tight

Just a thought and probably not possible due to what im assuming to be a small but more importantly (Read: arkwardly) a short theaded screw you might try a layer or two of thread tape perhaps.


Or, you could just go an buy an Arai, nothing had ever come loose on mine and coz they rock!!
Mind you I do find myself on occasion in at Anza's drooling over the graphics on Shoei's and wondering why cant Arai have a range of graphics like this?

It is black and white with an amazing holographic skull on a blue background on it (matches the bike dont you see)

I have just been and looked and there is nothing on the helmet to tell me what model it is. Next time we catch up have a look and tell me please.

Have consulted a senior member of the KB Brains Trust tonight, and am told it is an XR1000

And I have a new screw, thanks to Grahameboy. Thank you so much for bringing it up here mate, next time it will be a chicken lasagne

Yeah my XR1000 screws come loose all the time, tightened them so much the grooves are starting to burr. Although from memory i think they've stayed tight finally!

you can notice when they're loose quick, when the visor ratchet system becomes a little loose and floppy, because it allows the main side brackets that hold the visor to move up and down. A gentle up and down motion without actually allowing it to click past a groove will show you if there is too much play - you can also see the bracket move

A little dab of Ados will stop them falling out in future. It holds well enough that I haven't had to re-tighten them since I glued them. The benefit of using Ados or similar contact rubber cement is that you can still get the thing apart without buggering the screwheads. It doesn't set hard and solid like araldite or locktight.
I also added a little rubber block to the visor ratchet spring to increase the pressure on the visor a little, as the wind would snap it closed when I wanted it open, and pop it open when ever I turned my head to look for traffic on the motorway.
