Thank you for sharing the official communique with us, robertydog.

It's a sad day when we see another two riders join the list of those who've lost their lives competing in the sport we all love.

    May they rest in peace.

    2 Racers killed at Pukekohe

My wife just heard on the radio.

EDIT A mechanical failure may have contributed to a fatal motorcycle crash at Pukekohe Park raceway this morning.

Two motorcyclists, who have yet to be named, were killed after they collided on the back straight in a race about 11am.

Emergency services were on the scene immediately but could not do anything for the riders.

Police spokeswoman Darragh O'Riordan said early estimates were that one of the motorcyclists was travelling about 260kmh when the crash occurred.

"It seems that the crash happened when one of the racers struck the other from behind," she told NZPA.

"We believe that the bike in front was slowing and may have had a mechanical failure, but we don't know for sure at this stage."

The motorcyclists were competing at a meeting organised by the Auckland Motorcycling Club which included the fifth round of the New Zealand Superbike Road Race Championship.

This is now very much public knowledge.
Released in the papers nation wide
Phillip Harrison, 43, of Mangere Bridge and Derek Hill, 35, of Upper Hutt died at Pukekohe Park during their final lap of the 600cc sports production race in the New Zealand Superbike Road Race Championships yesterday."

Can we look to those who were directly involved in the aftermath of this terrible racing accident and offer our support. The spectators, emergency services officers, the other 600 riders and club officials/flaggies who were on the scene.

I've been talking to Stranger and a couple of other KBers at Pukie.
For clear reasons I don't want to go into the How or who has died but to put freinds minds at rest.
It WAS the 600 sport production race

I can tell you folk FOR DEFINITE These people are NOT involved and are all fine ---- Two Smoker,Jayracer,Nicko,White Trash, , Codgyoldracer,Keystone,Aria , Rob (torque),Kicking zebra and bren chch

Please can we show sensitivity for those waiting to hear if it was any of their freinds/loved ones involved.
MY heartfelt condolences to the two fallen riders, their family and freinds
