GPZ 250 Hard to start when cold, no idle when warm

    HI

the project continues. The good news is that the bike does start. The bad news is that it takes ages to start, this is with full choke and full throttle.

When it does finally start it just will not idle. The manual says that it should idle at about 1400 - 1500 rpm but if you let it drop below 2000 it gets really choppy and dies almost instantly. Also if you give it some snot and get it up to around 4000 its really slow to drop back will sit at around 2000 -2500 and then die a quick and not very subtle death.

Have rebuilt carbs with new idle jets and main jets cleaner than a clean thing, reset floats to factory setting (as per the beloved manual) and everything else about the carbs is sweet.

Completely lost..any brilliant ideas about what to try next will be greatfully recieved.. i really dont want to have to pay my dad to come over and fix it ...lol

    Thanks

Problem solved... after a little delving into the top end we discovered that...the person who had put the bike in the box had put the cams in the wrong way ARGHHH.. so having put them back in the right way it starts first crack and without the aid of any ether yahoooo.. so maybe when we tune the carbs (again) it will actually idle and even make it out of the shed. just in time for winter too
