Interesting. We have all insurances with AMI, with no claim, clean record, way over 25 yrs - and AMI told me they do not do 3rd party only on bikes. Or maybe one of us was confused when I asked if they insure for theft + 3rd party only.
    ..

I was told the same. I was happy with my claim with AMI and would have stayed with them if they would budge on track days. Even if I had to pay a special excess or additional premium.

But no... Nothing they could do so my policy ended when the bike was written off.

New bike is with Kiwibike. Can't fault them. Nothing like knowing only two people (who do bikes and ride themselves) will answer the phone instead of some random call-centre rep and the never ending hold/transfer game.

I am a newbie and am going to be buying my new bike soon, so lately i have been doing my research about various insurance companies and what they can offer. I just got off the phone with a lively and crackup guy named 'Tim' at 'John Baker Insurance', i highly recommend giving this company a call if you need to sort out your motorcycle insurance worries, ask to speak with 'Tim', he gave me the best service and deal so far!

My bike insurance was due so I gave them a call last week
07 Buell, last vehicle claim (company car)was more than 20 yrs ago, 55 yrs old, no tickets for probably 10 yrs, had a bike license for over 35yrs, $950 !!!
Considering John Baker WAS on a short list for my business insurance it sucked.

AMI only offer motorcycle Insurance as a service for their customers. They really dont want to do it.
As said by others, (and myself) I went with Kiwibiker. Great service and price.

    Does Kiwibike cover track days?

Edit: It's okay, I just answered that by looking at their website. The answer would seem to be 'yes'.

Kiwibike are brokers so it will depend on who underwrites the policy but both Star and Swann who they use will insure for trackdays with some conditions.

Talk to John Baker first. They do have a very good rate for Ulysses members also they discount if you have been on an advanced skills course. For my HD the rates were for a $34,000 bike with a $1000 excess. From memory, State $2400, Vero $1400, John Baker $850 incl all the discounts.

I used to deal with a great guy called Keith at John Baker but I have been told he has retired.

    Hey all,

It's all good about saying who's the cheapest, blah, blah, blah. We all have different histories, ride different bikes and live in different areas. So some people will get shit quotes while others will just get, well, shit.

What I'd be interested in knowing is when it comes to claim time, who gets you sorted quickly and who just keeps you hanging on.

I went with Swann Insurance through a broker because they were the cheapest quote I found at the time. However, if I'd have known them what I know now I'd quite happily pay extra for the peace of mind I'm not getting at the moment.

My bike was stolen some 7 1/2 weeks ago (at time of posting). I'm still waiting for the payout. If a leave a message on the voice mail - they don't call back. If I do get through, they say they'll get back to me and subsequently don't. Even the broker had a hard time getting hold of them, which is now why I'm trying direct.

If other KBers want to post the horror stories - and their successes - it would be good to know who we can depend on. Besides, I need a good recommendation for the next bike. :-)

I've done 2 claims, both through state. Both not my fault. the first, (I was rear-ended) took a while to get sorted, but part of that problem was getting someone the insurance company would approve of to get it fixed.

The second was a right-off, and while I didn't get the full amount it was insured for, I got more than what I payed for it. (private purchase) And gear as well, under the contents insurance

there was no problems with getting the bike money, didn't take very long at all. The gear took a little longer, but being laid up in hospital ment I wasn't champing at the bit for it.

Mine was through State, they have been fairly good apart from their excess.

Under 25, Restricted License: $291 per year and $1400 Excess

Mate with AMI got $500 excess but $800 per year :/

    Yeah Mine sux too

    Hmm
Full licence , I dropped a bike about 3 years ago when I bounced off a truck tyre (blowout) in the middle of the road (still don't see how this counts against me) Now have a blinged out 07 Black Busa.
Full comp per year $1200 plus $800 excess with AMI.
I'm gunna watch this thread closely.
