Basic Handling Tests in Auckland central area

Hi guys, I just joined the club recently. So hello and nice to meet you all(online).

I dont have any bike at the moment but I am planning to get one soon-ish....

I guess being a student, some of you live pretty close to uni. I do and AA test centre is closeby so thats cool about it.

HOWEVER, where is the closest motorcycle training school from Auckland CBD that I can take training and basic handling test???

Or a training school that you reccomend for us begginers??

Also it would be nice to know whats the cources like and whats instructors like(scary, mean etc lol)

I've asked AA people but it wasnt much help....

Since I dont have a car, it would be nice that somewhere I can go easily by bus.

Im sure there is newbies like me so please help us!!!!

Hello welcome to KB.

Sorry not an Aucklander but I'm sure someone will point you in the right direction. As for the basic handling skills test do a bit of a search cos its a topic thats been covered really extensively. Basicly you have to show that you can ride in a straight line at slow speed, weave through cones, come to a stop in a set area, emergency breaking, and go round a corner.

They are from Wellington, but go to Auckland to do training etc. Give them a bell to see when they are heading up your way next! They are TOP people & instructors.. & their courses are friendly & fun!

squiggles (the club president) should be able to point you in the right direction once he spots this thread.

lucky for you, the club has a strong focus on learner riders and has booked the RRRS (ride right ride safe) course for this may(?) and we should be getting a discount too thanks to a few sponsors. top notch course even fully licenced riders can benefit from.

likewise there is the AWNR (auckland wednesday night ride), a free 2 hour session held every wednesday night.

so once you've got you licence and a bike there'll be plenty of courses available, plus the learner rides run by the club, to get you confident and competent in no time

very nice guys and nice and willing to help. did my cert in te atatu nice and easy to find, i was the only one there so the one on one training was good, i would highly recommended these guys.

Im teaching hannes sis to ride on one of the gn, seems to be fixed since it ran no probs for an hour or so yesterday, even had a bit of offroad action since she ran over a few curbs

Hey guys I passed the BHS test!!!

Now I need to do theory test but should be easy, coz most of the stuff is same as car ones anyway, just need to remember specialists questions!!!

I do reccomend them for the BHS cource, if you take the cource at the Rosebank road one its pretty easy to get there by bus. Catch it from Symonds st and get off 310 Rosebank Rode and just cross the road!!

It was really fun! Guys there are very friendly and instructions are clear and easy to follow.

I used Suzuki GN150 today, and I reckon its a very good standard bike!! I didnt like the design because its handle bars are too high, but now I understand why

now when you do the theory, just remember the reason we wear full face helmets is NOT "so your friends can't recognise you when you're pulled over by the cops" - they'll recognise your bike anyway

There is some good advice and links for you on this thread.

I cannot over-emphasise the importance of training before tackling the Auckland roads.

The more courses you can afford to do, the safer your experience will be. And more importantly, learning the dos and don'ts will make your riding safer and a lot more fun.
