Sports Riding Shoes not boots ???

not to sure if i'd be into to them but should be better to be walking around in the the avarage boot.

Jim2 posted up once about the boots he wears; he's bought a couple of pairs now. Quite cool looking shoes.

What's the name. Style Martin or similar?

I've recently discovered I can hoik my jeans over the top of my boots, which cuts down on the gumboots look, but they still look like moonboots really. And boots aren't great for walking around in all day.

The Puma's look the best but I imagine they cost far too much as Puma's do. I think the only (only!) thing you'd be missing out on with these low cut boots is shin protection and possibly the flex support of say a SIDI verterbra system???

Go and have a look in Street and Sport they've got about three different brands on the shop floor, it'll give you a better idea than looking at pictures

My John Bull combat boots are more comfortable than any other shoe I have worn, are waterproof to mid calf and can be worn for days on end ever any terrain.

Boots are big and stiff and high for a reason ... they protect your ankles and lower leg in minor bins. those shoe things don't.

Get your priorities right. Get proper boots for riding and proper shoes for walking. It's not about fashion, it's about protection (would you feel safe using a knob cap instead of a full length condom?).

My leathers would look really fucken daft with little booties at the bottom like those shoes.
Lets face it - if you're prepared to wear shoes with that little shin protection then you are likely to weare less than protective trousers. Ergo you might as well save your money and wear a pair of trainers anyway.

Wearing that type of shoe on a bike is like using a 3x flameproof suit and using jandals as footwear in a formula 1 or indy car as safety gear.

I've got a pair of Alpinestars Octane riding shoes. (Not the ones in the pic).

I wore them on my trip from Christchurch to Queenstown today and they are very comfy.

Obviously there is no shin protection but my ankles seem pretty well armoured.

I don't reckon Alpinestars would make them if they were no good.

Some of you guys are a bit tough.

I'm usually safety conscious (by inclination and by training) but I do have a pair of those urban boots, I used to wear them on the daily commute. Lately I've used a pair of Red Wing slip-ons for that. Then again, I have Spidi and Style Martin boots for when I'm doing other things.

Someone buying a first pair of boots should probably buy a decent pair of touring boots which can cover all bases.

Well at $429 the puma ones don't classify as cheap in my books (motomail)

I'd consider something like this.
My daily commute is a short 10km run in 50kph zones only.
I currently have some touring boots cause they were comfy to walk in, and were supposed to be waterproof.
Now they aren't so waterproof..the lining is a bit stuffed, and they're too hot in summer.

So having a small boot that still had good ankle protection sounds perfect.

But at that price...I could buy a new full boot, and an extra pair of shoes to keep at work.

I wear the Alpinestar, I commute to work, ride bikes during the day, walk aroung all day,they are very comfortable and offer good ankle protection.
