Food poisoning can be anywhere from 3-10 days. Depends on how far through your system it has gone. As long as you don't get dehydrayed there is not much the docs can do. Found this out the hard way while 5 months pregnant.

Lost 8 kg in 10 days

My sympathy never pleasant, coke is good, its like disinfectant for your guts.
I have heard and used that a little grated apple is really good to begin with, but as said only when you feel up to it. It is said there is something about the acidity levels of apple which do not irritate an irritated? stomach and the grated makes digestion easy peasy. Anyway get better.

Got food poisoning years ago on xmas eve (had eaten takeaways all day so didn't know where from) and couldn't eat or leave the house for a week.

It took 2 weeks before I could return to work and then 2 more weeks before I felt well.

Never went to the doctor as I was young stubborn and ignorant of the risks, despite getn to the point of blacking out from standing up too long.

    Hope you get well soon.

Sorry to hear about the gastro. If you have a bad case of it you may find the immodium won't work. If you are vomitting and have the shits then you must input fluids ie water and lots of it. Don't try to force your tummy to accept food when it doesn't want it. It will tell you. If you have the shits for 48 hrs or more then you should consult a GP in case you require medical intervention. I know you said you don't want to pay $50 to hear someone say something you already know but if you don't improve then get yourself checked out. You could get more crook. You could be sick for 10 days or so at worst. Over to you.

Ooh, you have my unbounding symapthy! I had food poisoning a few years back and it took until the third day before I could even look at anything solid again. (Weetbix with plenty of sugar incidentally). I was dilerious for a while on that first night and during that time spent part of it verbally abusing the bacteria in rather colourful terms I am told.

I also had giardia for a month a few years later and that was interesting to say the least. I think one of the symptoms was described as 'explosive diarrhoea' and that is no understatement. 7 visits to the toilet in a one hour lunch period was my record. Interestingly, all I wanted to eat during that illness was cheese on toast with tomato sauce. After I had recovered from the symptoms, it took another month before I could fart without fear again just because I had become so used to letting them off gradually to prevent accidents. I lost 7 kilos with that one.

I had a weekend event on at some stage during that illness so my doctor gave me imodium to help get through it. It worked well and towards the end of it's effectiveness I could feel myself bloating ... "down there". Man, when the gates finally opened again it was hellishly spectacular.

    Hope you get well soon.

Imodium is OK for when you have to be some distance away from a dunny.

If you are at home, let your system clear out what it dosen't like!
