But if someone PM's you, aren't you going to type it out anyway ?
Just thought it might be good to have in the public forum for all to utilise in the future

go for your life my friend.
remember the info is based on my experience here in wellington.
prices may differ in Auckland and im sure there are way more low volume cert guys who can do bikes.
Not all low volume cert people have the bike cert.

    Re-certification process

1st if your re reging a bike that has been writen off as damaged then you have to have a low volume cert done.
frame, forks need to be measured and the specs are way to tight, you have to remember these rules were writen by people who have no idea.
things like axels and any structural components have to be signed off.
this process can cost $300-500 depending on who does it and how much work they have to do.

2nd stage, take it for a VIN at the testing station and they do a full WOF check but way more detailed.
things like indicators have to have all the right markings on them so you cant use after market cheap ones. they get real picky about little thing ive found.
A brake cert will need to be done by a bike shop if its a post 2000 bike.
half the people at VTNZ dont know the rules so ask to see the rule book!
at VTNZ a vin is $135
documentation is the key here, keep all details of parts purchased and work done.
+ you need proof you own the bike, ie sales docket or a signed form from the police that the bike is not ofintrest to them.
Most important, take the bike to the low volume guy first in its crashed state so he can see the damage, remember hes not going to take your word for it as its his ass they will have if the thing sanps in half while your riding it!.
In Auckland you prob have more choice who you take it to, down here in wellington there is only one guy who will low volume cert bikes!
all up this process will wish you never started on it and just flogged it of in parts on trademe!
