Ok so I've just realised I completely forgot about my last WOF. I'm talking a couple of months. Nothing wrong with the bike that I know of though. So my question is, if I turn up at a testing station will they check my current WOF and fail me, or...?

If the bikes in working order, you will get a new one current from that date. doesn't matter if it has not had one for a while.

Nope - having no WOF isn't ground to fail one... that'd be totally self defeating.

If you are asked, you could always say that the bike has been off the road and you are now WOFing it as you are back on the road.

you do not need to provide a reason as to why it does not have a current WOF. they are there to asses the roadworthyness of your vehicle, not to enforce the rules of the road.

Actually there is a point to going sooner. If you go in for the inspection 14 days before the current evidence of inspection expires and it passes, you get the remaining 14 days transferred to the new WoF. If it fails, while technically you shouldn't be using it , you can, whilst maintaining the appearance of compliance for the purposes of parking it where parking wardens might otherwise issue you with an infringement, or at a Police checkpoint. That also means you have some time to get it up to standard.
