Help for a hornet 250 owner

Hi all, unfortunatly I had a problem with my Honda Hornet 250 today, Its a 96 model..

Here it goes, riding down the Motorway, luckily under the speed limit the engine cuts off. so I manage to pull it over and get the help of the AA. Unfortunatly the bike wouldn't start. The engine turned over and there was spark. But no fuel. The AA guy managed to open up the Fuel tap which wasn't working but after we put it back together that started working. But the bike still wouldn't start.

So 3 hours later, after being towed back home the problem is that the bike starts but the Throttle is messed up, as soon as you touch it, it goes from Idle to redline. no Idea why.

Has anyone got any clues or ideas about this??? Or would you recomend a good Mechanic to help..

    Cheers

    Hey there,
Not sure if its the same problem but ive also got a 96 250 hornet and i had the exact same thing happen to me, coming down the high way and engine cuts out. After ages (like a few months) i finally found out the problem was that the diaphragm inside the fuel tap wasnt seated properly so it wdnt get sucked back thus no fuel goes through the tap. Maybe its worth opening up the fuel tap and reseating the the diaphragm. Suck on the tube coming out of the diaphragm to make sure its all working properly before you put it back.
As for the throttle,I have no idea, maybe choke is stuck open? Or air intake is stuck open. prolly have to mess around with the carburetor to figure that one out.
    Hope that helps

    Thankx and more Questions

Hi mate, Thanks for the reply..

I tried the Fuel tap and all is good. I also took out the air filter housing and noticed that there were two pipes that don't connect to anything, Would you know? The Fuel connection is at the bottom of the carbs, then there is one fat tube that goes to the sub air cleaner box, and then there are these two tubes that connect inbetween the carbs on either side but the other ends of the tube don't connect any where??? Very Strange.

Anyway the bike is starting now, but as soon as I touch the throttle it almost redlines. Would you recommend any good mechanics in Auckland?

    Cheers

They aren't meant to be connected to anything at the other end ,so dont worry about them, they are for leaking excess fuel etc from the carbs and air filter, just make sure they are pointing away from your engine if anything,so whatever they leak out does not pool somewhere or go all over your bike.

Tried checking /following the throttle cable to the carbs ? and seeing if it is caught or loose ? have had similar problems when i owned a 96 hornet a year back so im pretty sure i know whats going on

give me a pm if ya need a more detailed hand mate!
