40 plus and finally got the licence. My YB 125 is going to have to go. What suggestions do you guys have on a good first 250cc bike?

Welcome. The 250 world is your oyster. Sit/ride on cruisers, sports bikes, dual purpose etc until you find one that suits you.

thanks tri boy, it's got to be a road bike. I'll shop around, honda vtr250 or cb250 Hornet? Wouldn't mind a Royal Enfield when I get out of my 250 phase.

Although quite styley, the Enfield is umm, pretty gutless. Even the 500 Bullet.
If that style floats your boat, have a look at the Kawa W650, or some of the newer, (2001-2008) Bonnie's.
Even the older Trumpy's can be sweet, but a good reliable one fetches a good dollar, and generally requires on going maintenance.

Welcome YB Boy. There are a number of 250cc bikes you can look at. But try them out and you will find the right fit before you buy. The Hyosung GT250R seems to be popular.....
