would be good IF they did use the money on improving the roads. Roads are shit over here......

Graham's quite right, motorways should be for Inter City links and dual carriageways should service city requirements. Motorways should bypass cities and towns at best and at worst just go right through or over.

Auckland shouldn't get any more "new" motorways. Just finish the loop (SW & Hobby Rd) and that is it. All the money from then on, goes into public transport.
If some sandal wearing, tree hugging poof from, say, Titirangi, comes along and demands a motorway, the answer is "piss off, use public transport".
We have seen it many times here. The public do not use public transport, so then the operators put the price UP "to cover costs".
Put the price down and then people will use it. The other approach is to show the cost of commuting in a car, including the cost of parking, etc Vs the bus or the train.
I don't know about the rest of the bus stations, but the Albany one is completely full and encroaching on the local roads. Typical planning for the future...

Auckland councils are only allowed to charge an extra 5 cents a litre. EVERY WHERE ELSE are allowed to charge 10 a litre. SO QUIT BITCHING. You ask YOUR councils what they do with the money.

Yeah I know the Takapuna one is new, however, you would expect that the money spent...presumably after research....would have a better response.

The problem with park and rides are they need to be in the right place...I mean Takapuna is close to bridge so maybe it's location is not soo great...if you are going to drive to Takapuna and want to go into the CBD you may as well just drive all the way...

Must admit the car park at Takapuna is hardly geared up for a rush..

The problem is public transport is being run by private profit seeking organisations. Services are in places where money can be made and they only have enough buses out there so they aren't running on half capacity and wasting money. I was stranded in Wellington last night since they didn't bother having the usual services since it was Easter. Saturday isn't a holiday, the usual services should be running! Had to spend $65 on a fucking taxi.

Don't forget that you're paying GST on that tax too.
