There's nothing wrong with wearing HOG patches, or HD ones etc. What seems to happen and it's rife in the HD 'world' is there are HD riders, and HardlyRideitson owners. These are often the 'weekend 1%'ers' we find irritating.
There's a guy at work who owns if not the fastest 'naturally aspirated' road going HD in NZ has to be in the top 3. It is a seriously quick bike! He's a 'HD rider', hell he's even getting ready to fit a GSX front end to it![]()
Then you get the sub-3000km a year, wannabe HD badass, who buys all the 'gear' etc to ride to the local bar/hangout then home again on 'summer sundays'... but they are REAL bikers, who own REAL motorcycles, and like to inform everyone they are 'just that'.
I often get 'shit' for owning a canam spyder, which is fucking hilarious coming from the HardlyRideitson's....... When I dont own a car, and ride either that or my CB1300 every day, regardless of weather. But I'm not a 'real biker' .... fucking oath I'm not, I am a motorcyclist.
That's why sadly many riders have an 'issue' with HD owners.. the real HD riders are far outweighed by the.........![]()
If the road to hell is paved with good intentions; and a man is judged by his deeds and his actions, why say it's the thought that counts? -GrayWolf
It gets even more extreme than that. There was a guy in Auckland owned a Harley, when guests visited his house, they would be shown his bike. He never rode it, and I mean never. He used to pay a guy I know to ride it to the testing station for warrants.
He probably referred to himself as a Harley owner rather than a Harley rider. I hope.

Awesome, thanks for that, That gives me some understanding.
My first decision toward getting back on a bike was leaning towards either a Spyder or a sidecar, I went with the sidecar, I had concerns my busted up ankles would not allow me the experience of motorcycle riding again.
Mainly gear shifting and foot brake, and of course holding the bike up. After pushing hard with my rehab training and getting back into my other passion, Kyokushin, I found I could do the important things, not flash but within reason. The HD came into my life completely by accident, was something I had never contemplated.
I was looking at pre 75 bikes, with my left ankle being fully fused, I thought right foot gear shift was my best option, but the bikes are expensive these days, then I remembered, oil leaks, crap electrics and spending hours pissing around with them, Hence the W650 purchase, bullet proof engine, no leaks, good electrics, parallel twin, looks similar to a T120 and it even has a kick start.
