    Starting issues

Gday all, the FZR is having a few issues starting. She doesn't particularly want to start from cold without the choke open, when it will sputter to life.
I have had it suggested i should have the carbs looked at or maybe the plugs.
Can I tune the carbs/balance them/check them at least myself? Or is it simply better to part with some hard earned coin? (bearing in mind an ever present lack of it...)

i have heard that these bikes are 'shim' adjusted for the carbs, any ideas on where to get info? And does anyone know where you can get a haynes manual from for these things? Havent seen any on trademe lately

    Cheers all
    Hasta la victoria siempre

I am not sure about the 600's but i know the FZR400's were known for wearing out inlet valves which can cause hard starting. Balancing carbs and stuff can be quite an art so i would leave it to the shop.

Its a carbureted bike, if it cold the choke should be needed, I always learnt that if you don't need the choke on a cold start its more likely to be a worry.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

allus have to start Tasha with the choke on
    even in summer
just one of her charming idiocyncrosies .....

but then - i came to her off a Bonneville that only started if you held your mouth right, kicked merry hell out of her for ten minutes and there was a breeze blowing from the east

---- so i guess i'm just thankful for anything that starts at ALL
