Only if the lack of it being visible was a contributing factor of the accident... which is probably never. You're more likely to be run over if you have one then if you don't.Originally Posted by bear

Funny, I never bothered with an L plate on my FZR400 when I was on a learners. And when it came time to do the CBTA courses I got an exemption from the LTSA to use it "for riding to the course, completing the course, and riding home from the course".
I gather that the FZRs looked similar between the 250/400/600 and was there a 750 too? So I don't think any of the cops looked twice... and on the occasions they did it sure as hell wasn't for lack of an L plate!

Its also a drag if your following a mate on a motorcycle as often they are not too keen in slowing down for you. They get really impatient!!!
they were passing me using the parking lane. it wasnt an offical motorway just a 100km area. either way its dangerous.Originally Posted by bear

L plates don't help your aerodynamics, they slow your bike down to 70kph
hehe got the old sr250 up to 120the other day... on a downhill... with a tail wind lol :spudbooge
Personally, I think "L" plates are a serious hazard - I often was tailgated dangerously tailgated or attempting to cut you off.
I will tell the cop to - and will pay the fine I'd preferr to be alive and broke.
Well in Auckland if your doing 70km/h on the motorway at any point your doing pretty well anway.
Yea, I'm not a hardbreed northlander - being down to aucks 3 times on my bike - lived in auckland most of my life.Originally Posted by Jeremy

L plates are perfectly legal on the motorway, however riding along at 70kmh just isnt safe on the motorway. :spudbooge
