    Att FXR owners -desighn Fault

    I was lucky enough to buy Jcrandoms non runner FXR150.
    After stripping out the wiring loom to find the short I've found it--FINALLY.
    There seems to be a desighn fault in the loom -
    Theres a 12mm thick set of wires runs into the frame 100mm back from the steering head on the left side of the bike. right there 2 heavy wires branch off
    but there is very little insulation there at the joint
    basicly if ya drop her or even turn the steering a lot on the left side itll crush the wires onto the frame and wear through the insulation.
    I've repaired the loom and taped a section of rubber to the bottom of the frame tube to be sure.
    Id suggest any FXR owner has a look in the same place for a red and an orange wire exposed right there.

    Well done that man.

    Now that it's going, are you still going to run it as a bucket?

    What's involved in getting it down to 140cc?

    Interesting. So it wasn't the cut-out switch, after all. How long did it take you to find that? (Hint: tell me some Bob-awful number of hours so that I can righteously multiply it by $60 to prove to Sarah that it would have cost far, far too much if I'd hung onto the FXR...)

    [Edit: *You* were lucky to buy it? Hell, I'd say that *I* was lucky to find someone willing to take it away for a few bucks so quickly without it needing another minute or dollar of my attention. Good man!]

    im suprised that was the only one.
    i had god know how many problems with the RG and FXR 150s due to cheap workmanship. Great little bikes though

    Well, the poor wee thing took a hell of a bash following my death-stoppie-gone-wrong on the motorway in traffic a few weeks back. Picked it up and it ran fine for a couple of weeks afterwards, until one day, 5km from home, on a very, very rainy day, when *this* happened.

    The exercise did me good...

    Ok parts so far.
    Switch block -$100
    fairing blade -ordered -aprox $50
    Footpeg bracket $100
    Tyre Unknown at the mo--aprox $200
    ndicator lens aprox $50
    fuses 20 amp -aprox 10 $5
    so far --remove all cosmetics from bike,remove tank -aprox 1.5hours
    remove ignition barrel and strip out wiring find bare wire reassemble refit-30 minutes
    replace throttle assembily/switchblock 20 minutes.
    remove wiring loom. remove insulation find and repair exposed wires refit wiring loom. start bike 3 hours.
    time spent throwing fuses in corner and cursing cheap jap bikes -4.5 hours
    Keep in mind though its far from sorted out--Just running semi properly.
    I've still got to hone the bore and fit new rings

    Sounds like quite a bit of work there, Frosty! Glad I didn't attempt such. That's good 'hah, see, I *was* right to buy the Zeal' fodder.

    So is the final plan to turn it into an FXR140 and dominate the buckets, then?

    And are you going to follow through on that idea you had and attempt to win by paralysing the rest of the field with laughter when you turn up on it for a 150cc Streetstock event?

    Either way I'll *have* to come along and watch.

    What tyres you going to run on it?
