Absolutely phenomenal HBO series about A Baltimore Police Unit. Well worth a watch. IMHO better than The Sopranos and Oz.
I'm a big fan of "The Shield": have you seen the Shield and how would you compare the two?

And it has a trailer for Machete which is worth the hire price in itself.
    Rodriguez.

And yes, seconded. Also Planet Terror has the best director voice over commentary Ive ever heard. probably something to do with the fact that Rodriguez wrote, edited and shot and also did the music.

I loved this movie (I'm a big Romero fan too). So much better than its companion piece (Death Proof) which had Kurt Russell on autopilot (but, hey, its Snake Plissken, he doesnt have to DO anything).

Both these films suffered a little from the removal from the initial grindhouse concept: to make the length requirements for cinematic release both had to have stuff added to them, diluting the stories a bit. I would have loved to have seen the whole concept as it was supposed to be: grindhouse double feature with the trailers and stuff as well.

I loved the Machete trailer also, and there was talk of actually making the film but there is that "But Ive already seen all the best bits" feel to it.

If you can, get Rodriguez' first feature "El Mariachi" Its absolute genius made with a 16mm and no money. a bad remake into Desperado was so unnecessary but thats Hollywood I guess.

I thought No Country was one of the best films I had seen in years. Apparently the book is awesome, too.

Thirded. I loved it, an excellent observation of 70's schlock (Death Race 2000,Roger Corman/Russ Meyer exploitation etc). Haven't seen Deathproof yet, will be interesting. And yes also to No Country For Old Men. Great stuff!

Apparently Rob Zombie is making "Werewolf Women of the SS" into a Feature Length as well. Would be keen on that too.

    The Happening.

    My oh my.
The latest M. Night Shyamalan movie.

A mysterious toxin appears in parks around the North Eastern US, and triggers a 'self-harm' switch in the brain through various neuro-toxins (or something). Basically, it causes people to commit suicide.

Nothing graphic, but it is incredibly unsettling watching people perfectly calm, while taking their own lives (i.e. High Steel workers walking off the side of a building, a Cop drawing his gun and using it, zookeepers walking into Lion enclosures and taunting the Lions).

A Science teacher (Mark Wahlberg) and his Missus try to escape, with a little girl in tow.

Not scary, but incredibly unsettling and disturbing. The score is amazing. Fits like a glove.

7/10, strrangely for one of his films, there's no real twist. There is a little bit of "Global Warming Panic" thrown in there for good measure.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT see Tropic Thunder.

It is utter utter shite. Thankfully I had free preview tickets along with everyone else in the theatre, even so, people were walking out 'cos it was so crap.

Been meaning to put a couple of movies in here that I've seen recently:
    In Bruges
I watched this on the plane back from Oz and had to keep remembering that other people were not watching the same movie as I was as I just about pissed myself laughing!! This movie is incredibly funny, serious, sad, and a few other emotions, I LOVED it!! It has assassins, sex, drugs, drinking, dwarves, nudity, swearing, action, loud Irish accents, hell what more could you want? Anyway, well worth a watch! (In saying that, I don't think it's come out on DVD yet)

    Wall-E
If you like animated movies with the "feel good" factor, like Toy Story and Cars etc, you'll like Wall-E. The kids will like it, you'll like it, even the dog will like it. Good light entertainment for the whole family. Enjoy.
