Agree completely...but then I'm one of the adherents of whom you speak. Christian Bale was good though. "Best western since Unforgiven"? Maybe, given that it's probably the only Western since Unforgiven.

Yes he certainly 'outshone' the Rabito's owner. I refuse to mention his name. Last I saw of him on TV he was given a team talk from the Book of Feuds. Like I ask ya. Book of Feuds?? What a plonker.

THE HANGING TREE gota be one of the best 'lesser' known westerns ever made. Gary Cooper,Karl Marldon and I think it was George C Scott. If you can get a copy of the book grab it. Grity and realistic for the times. Probably out of print but the local library may have it. If not keep an eye out for it at book sales fairs etc. Had it once but tossed it out. Silly me.

    Lars and the Real Girl.
Bizarre concept for a movie, but it works. A lonely, shy, mentally distressed guy buys a "love doll" off the internet and parades it around a small town as 'Bianca' his girlfriend, the town gradually accepts him, and his ways, and slowly starts to play along. Part Comedy, part Drama. Some sensational acting here though, Ryan Gosling was fantastic as the loner. Recommended, but be aware oif what your getting yourself into first. 7/10

    The Baker.
British Comedy. A hitman who tires of his job decides to retire to a small Welsh town. Assumes the role of the town baker, someone soon finds out his past, and it all goes to hell. Very funny, plus it includes a very innovative sex scene. Not high on action, or violence, but a good laugh was had. 8/10

Death proof was great, the wife and I both loved it. When was the last time you saw real stunts in a movie?

Rambo was a little right wing, but using some really good special effects and massive amounts of blood, it was great as long as you kick your brain into neutral. But why would you take a 50 cal snipers rifle into the jungle? Time went quick for someone who normally hates sitting that long in a theatre.

    Rendition.

Spectacular. During the Clinton years, they passed a law that said they could transfer suspected terrorists to foreign prisons for 'interrogation techniques' that weren't available to them in the States. This law has since been used exponentially after the 11/9 (Fuck calling it 9-11, it was the 12th of September when it happened here) attacks.

After an suicide bombing in Egypt, a man is abducted when he lands on US soil, he is then given an extraordinary rendition to Egypt for torturing. His wife and Son who were expecting him at the airport are left clueless.

Solid performances, awesome to see another good Political movie coming out of Hollywood. This years 'Syriana'. Particularly scary after the American torture in Iraq/Afghanistan/Cuba documentary that I mentioned in Post 1 of this thread.

    10/10.

Two good movies I've seen lately are Into the Wild and Charlie Wilsons War. Both highly recommended. I'm too lazy to write a review though.

    Cloverfield.
Not having heard anything about this movie, it caught me completely by surprise. A giant monster movie. Awesome. Done similarly to Blair Witch, first person handheld camera perspective. Camera got a little too shaky sometimes.

Some light humour injected to it, but apart from a few scenes, it didn't really do it for me.

6/10 -Still worth a watch if there's nothing else on.

    The Bank Job.
Roger Donaldson's first film since '...Fastest Indian'. Loosely based on a bank robbery in London in the 70's. Jason Statham perfects the Angry, but slightly confused look for the entire movie. Pretty cool, lots of boobies, and an uncomfortable torture scene. Great popcorn movie, with some cool characters. Guess it's pretty far from the original true story though.

    8/10

Just about to sit down and watch "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale". I'm expecting it to be appalling.

In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale.

Absolute dross. Lord of the Rings for Nickelback fans. Burt Renyolds as the English King? Please. Jason Statham as a farmer? Rubbish.

Awful acting. Shabby script. Shit Special Effects. Dire Direction, and bad (I can't think of a word that means bad that starts with 'E') editing.

Avoid like the plague. I want a refund for my time.

2/10, *almost* so bad it's good, instead it's just bad.

    No Country For Old Men/Atonement

    No Country For Old Men
just finished watching this movie. Had no prior knowledge of what it was about or like, but really enjoyed it! Kind of weird, but very memorable, well worth a look!!

    Atonement
another movie I didn't know anything about, figured it'd be a bit of a "chick flick", but I wouldn't really put it in that category. Has a really interesting twist at the end. If you liked The English Patient, I think you'd enjoy Atonement.

In the shadow of the Moon was pretty good. All the NASA Moon shot film on the big screen with interviews of the Astronauts. Gives an excellent history of the Apollo program.

+1 Just saw this and thouroughly enjoyed it. Go see it at the cinema if you get a chance. Even hardened cynics won't be able to deny the human aspect.

Unless all those old coots were brainwashed or given o-some acting lessons of course

    9/10.

Not a movie, but just started making my way through "The Wire".

Absolutely phenomenal HBO series about A Baltimore Police Unit. Well worth a watch. IMHO better than The Sopranos and Oz.

Totally agree. Amazing footage too. My favourite shot is the camera in the separated stage as the rocket pulls away. Straight out of 2001, but you know its real. Fantastic

Who knew Mike Collins would have such a sense of humour (or Buzz Aldrin for that matter). ?
