I've yet to test ride anything but am seriously interested in a Hyo GT650R. Mainly because the GT250R suits me so comfortably. Other possibles are GSX600, VFR800 and VTR1000. I'm looking forward to meeting the Manawatu crew and exploring some new roads.

eh ? that wasn't mine for sale - I'm keepin mine for the moment. That wuz just some random one I saw.

Dunno what I will get after my GT650R. Anything bigger and faster will be a LOT more money, or else it will be a lot older and less shiny. What to do ??

No probs. Your Hornet sure looks nice but I'm pretty sure I'd like a fully faired bike.

My 2c. Don't get offended or anything but I have recently read posts have I not about noob traps and the unsafety glance and stuff. It's great that you have had an exemption my friend but if your still getting caught out by noob traps and having difficulty with techniques maybe it's wise to stay on your 250 a while yet. You have your full so no hurry, you can buy whenever. I'm no angel on my learners, I've learnt from mistakes the hard way, but learn to handle the 250 first then move up. You've only got 5thou k on it.

That's quite possible and I've already had a quote. The delta is $3,500 on a spankers 2008 GT650R.

No offence taken. I am very conscious of my learner status. I mitigate the risks with conservatism, deliberate training and regular reflection on my performance. In essence my brain is very much in control of the little boy in me. Common sense prevails.

My reasons for riding in the first place are a combination of recreation and an intent to do regular distance rides. A larger bike will provide for more comfortable touring and also provides room to grow and learn as a rider. Yes, there is wisdom in consolidating on the smaller bike but there is also a risk of cementing small bike habits in stone. Specifically, I'm referring to poor throttle control leading to a loss of traction whilst cornering.

Everyone learns differently. I choose to maintain a steep learning curve that provides focus and incentive to grow.

    no worriez.

Hrm, it does look yummy.. But fully faired bikes are making me horneh at the moment.. and I'm not reeeeeeely ready to trade up yet - I feel the GT650R has more to teach me.

    Many thanks tho.
