I simply asked to advance to a full licence immediately.
I put it that the GDLS conditions didn't suit regular open road distance riding (which I planned to do lots of). I argued that with my clean record, experience in cages and deliberate approach to motorcycle training, that there would be no significant increased risk to me or other road users if the exemption was granted.
The exemption was a 1-shot chance to immediately do my full test (I was half way though learners at the time). Also the 70k limit was exempted for the purposes of the test. If I failed then I would have to complete the whole graduated scheme. My test had to be taken within three weeks. Through a stroke of luck I got it booked for the very next day. On the day the examiner stopped the test after 30mins citing that it would have been pointless to continue. My riding and situational awareness were sound and he issued the full.
Now I feel a sense of duty to prove that this exemption was justified by not #@$%ing up.
