Problem with boots and changing gear

I've bought a new pair of boots. A pair of Gaernes.

Problem is when I'm wearing them I keep missing gears. When I change up, unless I consciously move my foot out from under the gear lever, the lever doesn't drop far enough and when I go to change up again nothing happens except a lot of lurching about and swearing.

Any one else struck this. Any suggestions?

might seem a simple answer but can you change the postion of your gear lever to suit the new position your foot is in. i usually set mine up when i first get the bike. had the same boots for a while now.

    You'll get used to them.

P.s. boots are road bike right i.e. NOT MOTORCROSS?

    your lever is to high
lower it about roughly 4 mm
    will fix it
it does depend on the boots you wear . you ll find that other boots will differ , most likely the other way

Its easier to push down than to lift the foot

They're Road boots. I'll have a play with the lever.

I had that problem for a wee while (a couple of days, really) when I bought some boots. Took me a while to get used to them after jandals. Same problem -- not letting lever re-centre after changing gear. Realised I was bringing my foot too far forward to change gear; trying to change gear with my whole foot, instead of just the tip of my boot (barely a toe in it, really). Kept locking the rear brake too, heh. Pedestrian crossing -- change down a couple of gears and try to gently apply the rear brake (no need for front). Howling scream of locked rear tyre, the pedestrians and little kids' eyes turn round like saucers as they see me approaching

    You'll get used to it.

Adjust the lever it might help.Wear ya boots as much as you can will probably help more.
2 ways. Itll loosen up the boots and You will start to develop "feel" through the sole and top of the boot
I had the same problem when I started wearing modern race boots. No feel at all
