Geeze! The first since 1992??? Why the delay?
That's the only significant thing about it good on her for qualifying.

Fark I remember being pulled over by a MOT patrol bike (one of the old XJ750 Yammys) back in the mid 80s with a chick on board so female bike cops aren't anything new

The dirt bikes are used to learn handling skills. They are a lot easier to learn on than the 1150RTs at the College. They get used very occasionally by suitably qualified people for other things, but they are mostly a training aid. Learn to do cone work on the wee bikes, it makes it far easier on the heifers. It's all about technique.

For that matter, anyone can ride a bike fast on a straight road, it's precision slow work that sucks the life out of you.

As a kid on one of my brief trips to NZ in the early 80s, I met one of the first (I think the first) female biker cops in Auckland. She was originally based out of Mt Albert somewhere. Very long straight dark hair, a good 6ft tall and rather solidly built. Apparently the usual look she got from motorists when she pulled her helmet off was a sight to behold. When the council traffic officers became MOT officers, she never bothered transfering and remained with Auckland council as a civilian employee.

Unfortunately, she died a pretty horrible death from cancer last year but she loved bikes up until the very end.

Have a look at the video clip on the other thread about Police bike ("I hope the cops don't get these here" - or similar title)

It shows Jap cops biffing their bikes around a slalom course like they were BMX bikes - and those guy ain't that big either.

Sanx, was her name Diane? I had a friend when growing up who became a bike cop. As she was somewhat older than me, I can't remember where Diane was based. I know her mum lived in east Auckland and that Diane had long brown hair. I haven't seen her for about 20+ years but often wonder how she's doing.
When I saw the article I thought of our friend and thought bullshit that this woman is the first woman cop, but our friend was back in the days of MOT and police, early 80's if not a bit earlier than that. I remember being impressed with her when she'd pull up at our place on the bike (she'd also come over in the car sometimes, always funny looks from people).
Anyway Sanx, if you could PM or post the name, I'd appreciate it.

I like fixing odds in my favour. I'm happy to be 188cm tall and in charge of a 170kg bike.

If she recruits another 20 friends, they'd be able to do this.
