    Importing motorcycles, some prices.

i think a few people might be interested in these lists,
anyone imported there own bike before?

i bought a couple across a few years ago in a van, but they were race bikes and trials so they did not need to be registered.

now i am looking at doing it again, but for some sport bikes and motards.

the attached lists are FOB japan, so obviously freight/customs ect needs to be added ontop.

what do i need to take into account as far as registering them here?

    cheers,

mods have moved this to online trading for some reason, i wanted a discussion about sports bike importing, but it looks like that just won't be.

Jimmy mate, I've just imported a new Triumph Tiger ABS from the USA. It's not arrived yet however I got over 80c per NZ$ so I have saved around 25% inc GST + Shipping.

You just have to make sure you've got all the ownership papers. My old man is currently locked in a deathstruggle with the American DMV over his imported bike. Turns out the particular state he imported it from doesn't require any form of ownership papers/history - but NZ does!

Those prices are awesome compared to NZ prices! Interesting to note how many 400's are on that list though, and the almost non-existent number of 600's. In NZ we have heaps of 600's and hardly any 400's, I don't think we've had any new 400's come out in NZ for quite a while, if ever?

    NSR250 MC16, $100!!! Awesome

    NSR250 MC28, $6000. Oo-er...

Hopefully the 2 strokes come down in price when learner licensing hits, I want another project bike.

The big thing rego-ing them here is the "MR2A" document. It's the must have when getting a car or bike road legal here. As for acquiring one, I've yet to find that out.

If they can help out with wrecks, they might be able to help with imports. Contact them if you're keen.

I think if total is 5 then it is excellent, 4 is good condition, 3 is need some attention, 2 not sure and 1 usually means heavily modified bike (race bike).

Generally a grade 4 is pretty good.

Yes Jim, registration is very easy and handled through the AA.

Ownership papers plus proof of purchase are important and you have to pay the GST.

correct on the grading there, anything that is a 4 is ready to ride, anything that is a 5 indicates show room condition
