Nope yet another dumb thing to do. We're not talking about me here, we're talking about you. If I wanted to let people know how I journey up Queen St I'd start a thread and tell the whole world; but better still I'd invite you to start the thread since you know so much about it.

Perhaps you felt that you had something to prove by riding around with a deflated tyre. Beats me how me and my Ducati make you feel inferior but it is you we're talking about afterall.....

Pap what the hell are you doing man, better take you out coromandel way for some training huh. If it ain't broke on ya bike and still works don't fix it, makes life cheaper when you bin it the next time! Am looking forward to getting out with you and Zapf again, tis gonna be good to see how much you have improved from the first ride i saw you guys on, a very wet coromadel ride. Just keep it upright till then huh. And yeah buy leather mate tis the only way to go.

Bugger man. If there is anything i can do to help give us a yell. I think i have some black paint hanging around if you want to change your bikes colour hahahaha. Glad your ok though. Gotta check those pressures, i had a slow leak on the zxr250 (small nail) and hell i felt it when riding so next time if something doesn't feel quite right that's the first thing to check (should have done it on the 400 BEFORE going on the rade last saturday no bins but sliding all over the place cause of low pressures)

Andrew, I agree with you, that knowingly riding with an under inflated tyre isn't a wise decision.

However, I think you've drawn conclusions based on an assumption that I was aware of the condition of the tyre.

I think it would be a fearless individual that would press on knowing that their tyre wasn't in a good state.

If I had have felt it slipping or received any other indication that it wasn't up to scratch, then I would have slowed down, and if I deemed it neccesary, stopped to inspect the bike.

However the transition from on the bike to on the road occured so quickly, that my first indication of something being not quite right was when I realised I was sliding along the road.

As for the mention of Queen street, the point I was attempting to illustrate is that before criticising the behavior of others, that you should consider your own behaviour.

Where I have to disagree with you is that it is about both of us. I feel that if you are prepared to offer criticism of others then you need to be prepared to accept criticism of your own behaviour.

As for feeling inferior, I don't feel inferior to you and your Ducati, or any other bike/rider combination. There's always going to be someone faster than me and always someone slower than me, and there is something I can learn from all of them, including yourself.

I haven't ridden with you before, and I have only met you the once, so I'm not in a position to comment on your riding skill, nor your bike.

I felt that the telling of your story to MikeL and myself over lunch at Galbraiths did put it in the public domain, and that it is relevant to your ability to offering criticism of other's behaviour.

My reply to your original post was somewhat more sardonic that was necessasary to prove my point, but needs to be taken in the light of the hour it was written, the busy day I'd had, and what I felt was an overly agressive tone to your post.

However, I'm not interested in harboring a grudge against another KB'er, and I would prefer you didn't harbour one against me.

May I suggest we call it quits here, and you could tell me about your Ducati over a beer at the next Galbraith's lunch?

Would that be cool with you?

I'm not sure if she saw the incident or not. I remember that when I stopped sliding that there was a car there. I knew I was ok, so that's why the next thing I did was let her know that I was ok, as that I didn't need help (I think I thanked her for stopping but I can't remember).

From her perspective it must have been a suprise for someone to go for a slide and then have a calm conversation.

Yeah, I've got the bits to get it going again (peg and mirror). I need to sort out some new gear before I do anything else though. But I'd be very keen for someone with experience to give me some advice.

I have been giving some thought to getting some 'glass fairings and painting it black, but I think I might save that for when i go to sell it. And have the rangiest bike on the block in the meantime.

Hey Pap, while you're out shopping for leathers (the only way to crash!), pick up a little tyre guage too. Should only cost $20 or $30 for a basic one but it would help you keep a regular eye on the tyres. Having it on the bike means its convenient enough to do a quick check before you set off in the morning or to check at a fuel stop etc. if you've got any doubts whatsoever.
The longer you ride (and the more you push the bike), the more you will start to learn what under inflated tyres feel like before they become a catastrophic problem - a very important skill to have

Once you're used to tyres always at the right pressure on your bike, you'll be able to spot problems much faster.

Indeed.
Then even a couple of PSI either way, and you'll feel it (or kPa, or whatever rocks your world

). In fact, once you've got a tyre-pressure gauge, and tyres that keep their air in

, you'll be able to play around with finding the pressures that work best for you, by starting with the recommended pressures and working up or down (almost always the latter) a couple of PSI until you find the 'sweet spot', tyre pressure wise.

Yep, leathers are old school, but they last for years, mine are 12+ years, and they still leak in the same places no matter how much bees wax I stuff into them.
