    Bloody brilliant story.

Great vistas to admire, should've done the crown range when in Wanaka, would take maybe couple of hours return.

There are plenty of doc or free camping areas in the Tekapo region, which have great views etc.

Probably travelling this time of year is good,if weather holds as not many skiiers,or tourists on the roads, low season travel for us regarding tourism.

Just hope you don't get any of those nasty camera invoices in the next couple of weeks.

I am quite nervous about this aspect, fingers crossed. I think I may have been pinged at Pukerua Bay on the way home

Shame those two bikes are in the way every time you wanna get a picture

Those photos look great. You should have got the guy tenting next to you to take a few of you two and the bikes!

Glad you had an awesome trip. I think they put the gravel down to slow the traffic down before it hits the black ice.

Stop it stop it stop it!
I can't take any time off to tour NZ - I'm saving my leave for a trip to Urp.

Fantastic scenery and photos all right!

But I wish you guys would stop touring around and posting pictures - it's making me homesick for the Sarf Oilund.

So, how did Sarah get on with riding the bike with no brake lever? :spudwhat:
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Only thing was though, that the temps were in the 20's! I think the Fox and Franz Josef road crews were having a 'lets see how many bikes we can get today' competition! It was seriously dangerous and if it hadn't been wet as well, it could have been real ugly!

Thought we probably should have got some 'bike free' pics lol. Actually there are one or two somewhere
That guy was such a I thought I was anal, jeeez

Sorry about that chief lol. I know what you mean about the great southern land, I'm highly tempted to go back meself

The off happened at night in a REAL tight section. I rode it down to Kaiteriteri, it wasn't too bad if you planned a long way ahead. Sarah rode it through to Nelson the next morning - very carefully. Thunderbike didn't have a replacement but she happened on a Duc specialist quite by chance who had a less badly broken Nissin spare. Very lucky there!

hmm I have a few trips planned for when the new steed arrives .. but will plan the south island for more "summer" weather & its a perfect opportunity to met with the locals & ride to a rally on those who are familiar with the area ... they know the best roads

IF and a big if(weather wise),a good time to go is about first week in March.

The way the weather patterns are heading,if same as this year would be great, the temp are about 18 deg,and the roads are dry,no frosts.Well there was a semi frost we had down there one day,but gone by 8.00am or so.

My mum did from Wanganui to Inangahua day 1,next day to Franz Josef,day3 into Arrowtown,a few days in Arrowtown and next day to Chch or so,then to Picton to home.Took us 5 hours driving Arrowtown to Chch, but about an hour for stops for lunch and pics.

Could spend at least 8 hours exploring and taking pics if required, from Queenstown to Chch, such is the scenery.

Hehe rough itinery folks,day1)from Picton to {Queenstown(just kidding)}Geraldine.
    day2)Geraldine to Cromwell.
day3)Cromwell to Invercargill via Alexandra and Caitlins.
day4)Invers to Milford to Queenstown area.
    day5)free time to explore.
day6)Queenstown to Westport over crown range road.
    day7)Westport to Nelson
    day8)Nelson to home.
Obviously another couple of days for sightseeing if needed, but think minimum 10 days at least. And if group of 8 is good for accomodation if in motels,i.e 4 per room.
