Well, that was a pretty good ride. Up SH1 to Parnassus, take the Leader Valley Road up to Waiau for a good (though occasionally gravelly) blat, stopped at Waiau for a beverage and munch, couple of games of pool and some general conversation, then gear up again and carry on through to meet up with SH7 and on to Culverdon, where we found we couldn't fuel up because it was Mobil card only... ... so we carried on and found a Caltex a bit further up the road. Gassed up, carried on south, went through the Greta Valley then back home via SH1.

    Everything went fine, except....

OMFG those fucking road works on the way back! That truck washing them, whatever the hell it was spraying them with I don't know but holy shit! Got back home and found that the bike, my jacket, boots and helmet were totally encrusted with a film of white filth!! Couldn't believe it... really can't be arsed washing the bike after over 300km in the saddle, but I gave it a spray with a hose to get the worst off anyway.

    Still...

Was an awesome ride. Id forgotten how much fun Leader Road is.

Had a blast, but had to scrape my undies out at Waiau.

Hit a bit of shingle while doing about 50km after going over a one lane bridge. Apparently the rear slid about 2 feet, all I knew/felt was the front tuck under quite a bit and then grip again.

I didnt even have time to think about it. Im just thankful I didnt end up a pillion on another bike or heaven forbid in a helicoptor for the ride home.

I worked it out, and my front tyre has done exactly 20942km's since I have owned the bike. God knows how old the tyre was when I got the bike lol. Im starting to get the impression that I need a new tyre.

My front end has now developed quite a significant wobble at any speed under 80km/h. It was quite funny cruising down Main North Road watching my handlebars jiggle around.

Sure was a significant wobble too... riding along next to you watching the front end of your bike wiggle back and forth constantly was an interesting experience for sure! I'll be interested to know what's causing it when you find out. Was your bike / jacket / helmet as encrusted with filth as mine was?

Its probably the front tyre. It needs replacing.

I wasnt. Although I had a fine mist of the stuff on my helmet from your rear tyre.

The bikes coated in the stuff though. It will get a wash tomorrow or the next day. Sometime in the next month. Probably when it rains.

Yip it was certainly a great day out riding, the weather was brilliant, and did a few roads i havn't been on before. I had a wee shingle moment as well when we were heading to Waiau!

My bike is absolutley caked in crusty muddy dried up dirty filthy muck, it looks like we went on that trail ride

check for bulges or bubbles on the tyre, its not un common for a older tyre to start seperating. Failing that check discs for being true, bent caliper, loose stearing head.
Either way no more open roads till ya sort it.
    cheers DD

Im not even going to go and have a look at the tyre. Its just going to get replaced.

Infact I will be heading to the bank on Monday to withdraw some hard earned moola from my bonus saving account so I can pay off the CC and get a new tyre.

Im also considering getting a new rear aswell. I dont really like the slightly narrower tyre that is on there. Could make for one good burnout though.

Must remember to ring Cycletreads to make sure they have something in the shop that will fit.

Thanks for the friendly welcome and the nice ride today .
Washing the dirt is odd, must be exciting to have an emergency stop on this. But it hasn't much impact on the bike, dirty before, dirty afterwards.
See you again, for another ride ...

Will a bt45 last 20000km's like my current tyre

How are they in the wet and the dry? How do they last. I would idealy like to not have to get new tyres for atlest another 8-10 thousand km's
