    Aviation museum in Masterton?

    Hi,

I thought I saw something in the local paper a month or so back about an aviation museum that had opened to the public. (Clue: they had the Peter Jackson King Kong plane).

I'd like to take my boy there for his eighth this weekend.

But I've not been able to find any helpful details by googling.

    Found:

    GEORGE HOOD AVIATION MUSEUM: http://www.hoodaviationmuseum.org.nz

    and

    Old stick and Rudder: http://www.oldstickandrudder.com/

...but neither site is very helpful and I'm still not sure which it is (if either).

    Anyone know what's what?

    Thanks,

Peter Jackson owns a shitload of WW1 era stuff. All that is housed in a museum in Blenheim IIRC, its attached to Woodbourne and not open to the public.

The Old Stick & Rudder co is a hanger at Masterton airport housing warbirds from WW1 & 2. I have only looked thru at Wings over Wairarapa events so not sure what is permanantly there. The Whittakers Chocolate Tiger Moth is based at Hood Airodrome too. Good luck.

    Cheers all,

The Peter Jackson connection had me thinking about the Marlborough stuff, but I swear the article was about a Masterton thing.

Don't quote me on this, but I was pretty sure PJ was going to have some of his planes based at Hood. It would make sense...he's got a mansion just out of Masterton.

Not quite true. ClassicFighters is open to the public and is well worth a visit.

And it's at Omaka, not Woodbourne.

Hi pzkpfw - I saw the same newspaper articles but haven't been able to find anything else out about it myself, unsure if it is open yet.

The only other thing I could find was this
    http://www.svas.org.nz/pages/the_sva...m_document.htm

It has links back to the page you already have, sorry can't be more help.
