What do you think Kiwi Biker's reputation is in the real world?

Often talked about the difference between online persona and real life.
For those who are here, what do you think kiwibiker.co.nz reputation is out in the real world?
Note that this doesnt necessarily reflect what kiwibiker.co.nz actually is, just the reputation.

Does it need changing or not?

    How? or not?

    does it matter?
they could think of us whatever they choose
We are so spread out around the country, that what ever people think of us, How will that reflect on how we act or do things?
inside our own walls are enough of all walks of life that well....
    what reputation?
    Have we got one?

After talking to the Ambos that scraped me up off the road after my bin, turned out they were both bikers. Somehow got onto KB, and they both turned around in disgust and warned me to stay away from the ATNR as it's "full of hoons and idiots". Both of them thought of KB as a meeting place for hoons.

On the other hand, i've recommended it to heaps of learner friends due to all the stuff i've learnt over the last 6 months. Give and take.

Saw one of the Ambo's again at the Westpac ride. Awesome people.

Does it matter to you? Does it alter your perception of people if you are out on a ride and meet up with some random bikers? Are you more or less likely to say hello if you know they are kiwibikers?

KB has a bad rep due to it's rides, but you will always get a few who feel they have to show off on a group ride, hell i used to be one of those ATNR "hoons"

I am very much with Mstriumph here .... I enjoy KB and I recommend it to others ... some of this scene is dangerous but that is inherent as well with riding motorcycles.

It amazed me .... as it would Skerstar, grub and all the others who have come off or even when your bike doesn't work on the side of the road somewhere .. how much support is on hand when its needed .... its a truely great community in that way.

I know quite a few bikers that don't come on here, their thoughts are that if you are a real biker you'd be out riding not talking about it online...to which I of course replied - I hardly ever talk about *riding*

I enjoy KB and I have met some really decent folk who have made some pretty damn generous offers. Thanks again all of you! I also appreciate the wealth of information I have access to and that I can find out about rides and events. Because of KB I am more likely to approach other bikers to say hello (than I would have before)...though not in a real rush to admit my handle I must admit

Some take this place too seriously (actually I did when I first came on too) now I take nothing seriously and am as likely to be talking through a hole in my arse on here (infact I mostly do) as I am to be responding genuinely to someone.

Then there's the real world....On here I revel in the fact that I can rant my arse off, be stupid and silly, have a laugh, be totally one eyed and all that wonderful stuff that isn't really appreciated or useful when you are face to face with people - especially those you don't know...online it mostly either gets ignored completely or someone else like minded gets into it and has a larf with ya. In real life I am more considered and careful with people's feelings...again I don't assume that anyone is being serious about their comments when they rub me the wrong way, I also don't assume that because we may have chatted on here that we will click in real life or recognise each other.

Saw a funny exchange the other night on chat. Someone was all upset (and quite put out actually) that another KB member had apparently 'ignored' them in the real world. The persons comment was - we have never met and I don't know what you look like - WTF?! To that the response was "but it's me in my avataar"...don't know about anyone else but I never assume that any pics of anyone online *are* actually THEM. ANd this site breeds a level of familiarity that doesn't always magically translate into the real world so actually people need to not assume that they already have built up a rapport with someone in real life just cos they've chatted on KB...

I go and ASK if they are KB'ers. 50% chance so far that they are. Even people that I have stand up battles on KB with are perfectly nice folks IRL. Except weaver. lol drat thats another beer I owe ya
The only thing that I think needs to be improved on KB, is the nasty behaviour. People just seem too ready to be rude, when IRL they are perfectly nice individuals. Stop being so bravado people.

The hooning and the dangerous stuff - long may it continue IMO. As we all know, there is a time and a place for it, and popping a wheelie or pulling 240 somewhere is all part of the lifestyle, and if you can pull it off safely then go hard.

The chatroom is alive with lip and wit these days, but the most noticeable part of it is the love. These guys are really careful with each other, and the laughter often does not die down until well after 11pm. We'll work long and hard to make sure it stays that way. It just takes one person to mouth off the wrong way and the room is suddenly very silent. "uh oh"

So c'mon guys, be cool behind the keyboard and ditch the bad stuff

KBers are really quite different in different areas.

1/ Auckland North Shore KBers - home of ATNR (and it's only a minority that turn up and hoon and they're usually not asked back)
2/ Auckland South Thursday night fellas - Average age a lot older than the Northern run when I went out with them.
3/ Auckland Learner friendly rides - generally sensible a good excuse to get out and meet people rather than riding balls to the wall - mixed bag mainly youngsters.
4/ Hawkes Bay KBers - sensible and ride in a group really friendly, welcoming bunch - look after the newer riders.
5/ Wellington Riders - never ridden with the Welly bunch - something to do in the future.
6/ South Island Kbers - As great a bunch of piss heads as you'd ever like to meet in a rain storm with nothing but a tent. Only ridden with a couple of them so can't comment but they seem to have a lot of experience and sense so far.

Ultimately anyone just coming to the site might just discover the rantings of SkidMark and the Mormon Few and think we're all like that - shame - the point is there is so much diversity on KB - it reflects real life anyway.
In space, no one can smell your fart.

you missed the manawatu crowd. We are actually alot like hawkes bay and have a few imports from time to time. But what you say is what things are actually like. I was more thinking of the reputation that preceeds it.
