There's nothing better. Never spend your break going to the toilet, it's a waste (ba dum tish!)

My old job at countdown I was making $8.20 an hour before tax. Total and utter shit pay, but considering the amount of work I actually did I was doing pretty damn well.

Edit: It's funny how older people go on about these years being the best, most valuable years of my life. But employers don't think our time is worth a lot so we have to spend most of our time at work so we can actually go out and do something briefly.

Dude, that's fucking awful. Like, if this was your first job I could understand it but ... you've been there four years. Bummer.

    Agree.

And its not that easy to just go and find something better. Hence the migration to Aus. My Bro is a bricky over there and with tax and the cost of living taken into account he is much better off than what he was in NZ doing the same thing.

Me, I just find a way to work less and earn more. It is possible (although bloody hard in kiwi land), just got to keep looking and asking the question of possible employers.

I work 8:30-5pm 5 days a week, so 42.5hrs/week including 2 15 min breaks and 30 min lunch. On a 40k sallary. Programming and operating a turret punch. I've been there a year now after getting out of uni with a BEngTech in mechanical engineering. I'm not using anything I've learned at uni which is a bit disappointing. I guess the job suits me well, but I'm starting to think if I should look for something else (particularly on mondays ).

Don't be surprised at this. I did an Engineering Degree in Computer Systems and am now doing Project Management. Little of the technical stuff I learned at uni is applicable but things like time management and analytical skills that were learnt at uni are useful.

In my previous job, I was on $17/hr... with a few benefits, but not many...
My main reason for leaving my job was that I wanted to know what I was worth 'out there'... I was shocked at what kinds package I was worth... from 40k salary-almost 70k(package)... If your not happy in your job... or dont feel 'valued' or 'paid enough'... go out n see what your worth!! you dont have to accept a job just cuz it pays more tho... do what you enjoy!!
I turned down a job that paid more cuz I would've got bored... I'd rather get paid less to enjoy a job than get paid heaps n hate it

Work, ride the bike, sleep. I work long hours and for half of that time I earn nothing, but anticipate a return from some of that effort in the future. For the other 50% of my working hours I charge very well, so I can afford to own a bike
    Here for the ride.

Good advice....do what you enjoy, and thats exactly what I do...I'm a stores manager and spend most of my day driving a forlkift...I Love it!...
I dont get paid a lot....$36K last year, but I enjoy what I do...
My wife works as a librarian and is on closer to $50K... I dont mind that she earns more since she is more skilled than me....so I guess if we have a child I will become a stay at home dad and let her bring home the bacon!

I was unemployed for AGES out of uni with a degree in Engineering. I think it was bordering on a year in total. Fucking awful.

It's OK. You'll sort it out.
