One thing to watch out for is the differance in the "reading speed" .
Some are made for speed events like road racing and others are for mountain bikes and MX applicationd. The differance is the reading / transmitting speed of the units.

Is it definate that the MX units mentioned above were the TranX260 model? as they are generally dearer due to being more advanced than the slower reading / transmitting models.

    Just a thought. Paul.

I think you may have misread. If you're referring to Archer's post above I don't think he intended to say that we should be buying the MX ones for $100 each with a subsidy, but rather just to point out that they got a pretty mean subsidy on those ones.

You are right that they have different reading speeds. The MX ones only read up to 120kmh, where as the 260 ones we use read up to 260kmh. I wonder if that will be adequate at Hampton Downs?

If its not, just put the timing loop somewhere slower, make start finish on a corner, it'll be fine, I swear

Nupp . I didnt misread or missunderstand.
The reason for the MX items being cheaper is because they are far less technical and they sell 20 times more of them (worldwide) so they are cheaper to manufacture. The subsity would only be possible because of these points.
The gap of manufacturing cost is huge but the differance of selling price is nowhere near the same , hence a discount / subsity is able to be negotiated for a bulk purchase.

As for Hampton, well id imagine we all have to buy the newer fancier version thgat reads fasterer , or , we may have to buy a speed limiter for the start straight at that track. Like a pit lane speed limiter , simple if you think about it aye !!!!

ohh dear im getting all topical again

You Did indead miss my point. the reason they were so cheep for us, is we got $25000 from the Lion foundation to subsidise them, the actual transponders were i think only $20 cheaper for the bulk purchase.

yup... most important part is to ask the Auzzies to list it as less than $400 NZD value or you get stung GST....

At least it should hold its value well Mr Choppa. If you take out a national title it might even become collectable.

My MX transponder was A$351 = NZ$410+NZ$85 (some government charge/s for importation)
Total NZ $505 ($15 to rent looks good value!!)

Some companies are happy to keep the “value” under NZ$400? For “ease of import”. Don’t forget to ask for no local duty/GST when ordering parts/accessories – 17% England, 10% Aussie. (mmmmm, accessories)
