Best MP3 headphones for use in helmet?

Interesting thread !
How do people find the noise canceling aspect of these ear canal phones ? As a bit of an old fart, I'm quite concerned about preserving what hearing I still have (too many rock concerts as a teenager/20, 30 & 40 something !).
I'm sure it depends on the fit, but how do they compare with various straight ear plugs for blocking out wind noise, etc ?

1+ for Sennheiser CX300s, Love them, cuts out so much rubbish, although only passively and nice sound too.

I had the same problem when I used to wear an HJC helmet .......... Perhaps try a different helmet, one that has a lot of room around the ears.

Hmmm that might be the problem. His helmet is an HJC. Gawd why does everything have to be so expensive.

I have tried various and now have plugz 4 lugz - cost me about $150 I think when I got them. I did have some canal phones before that and while they were OK I don't think they killed the wind noise as well as the custom P4Lz . I wear a flip front HJC helmet which is probably noiser than fixed helmets (the latest HJC looks and feels like it will be better).
I found the canal phones and other MP3 speakers all tended to get uncomfortable on a decent trip.
The Plugz for Lugz have been a step up from anything else I have tried and I have been really pleased with them. The only issue I found one day when it seemd that one side wasn't working ............... don't know if I want to confess this????????????? ........... a big gob of earwax had blocked the outlet!!. Very easy to fix

Yes .... like you, I've got a set of Plugz 4 LugZ, and find them to be really good. I was just wondering what the canal type earphones are like as far as stopping wind noise. I've got a pair somewhere, just haven't used them yet. I got them (don't remember what brand .... but they weren't cheap .. ) a while ago, but haven't got around to using them. I have mainly used earphones in conjunction with my GPS, and the P4L'z are great. Music through them is great too.
It's about what works for you, eh. No right or wrongs ,,,, just choices IMHO.

The canalplugs that came with my Sony mp3 player are awesome on the bike, work really well as earplugs too

Im liking this thread! i need some new ones as well, my only concern is that they get pulled out when i put my helmet on. skull candy ones are good ish, they do get dislodged easy. maybe its my KBC helmet

Has anyone used "earbuddies" earplugs as talked about in last months bikerider mag, they are straight out earplugs used by bands and concert goers and are made to cut out all noise other than music and speech?
I'm going to try them with a set of basic "headphones" mounted in my helmet.

I use a one of those cloth face gaurds that use velcroe the ones that you wrap around and have velcroe tabs that do up at the back of your head anyway the mask also covers your ears and helps keep my ear cannals in place.I was also told by a pimple faced shop assistant that skull candy are just a kids thing the logo is better than the product,I have a set of mid priced sony around $40 they have three different size rubber bits that you can put over the ear piece to suit your ear canal size ,they are not very big so don't irratate my ears on long rides the longest I have had them in is 5 hours with no pain.....bloody brilliant good luck
