I bit. I admit it. Hook line and sinker.

As for Celts (of which I am not one - all my family are English - so my blood line is English) originating from North Africa I think you'll find the blood lines lay in southern Europe as opposed to northern Africa. This has been scientificaly proven through DNA testing. Bearing in mind that Africa and Europe were most likely connected together at one stage (in the days of Pangaea - the super continent). Although we all came from Africa originally so I guess we're all the same deep down. Not that there is anything wrong with originating from north Africa as you appear to infer.

As for the rest of your comments - blah, blah, blah, blah. Shant and won't bite again. I started this thread as nothing more than a bit of fun intended on stimulating some Kiwi's to talk about their flag, a very topical debate here at the moment. So please lay off the insulting remarks. I've received several PM's form people who have been offended by your comments and none of them are Welsh. Just people who fail to understand why there are some English people out there that appear to take perverse pleasure in insulting other nations.

To any Kiwi's I may have insulted (I'm not aware that I have) I unreservedly apologise. This was most definitely not my intention hence the tongue in cheek comments in an attempt to stimulate debate. This appears to have worked by the number of replies to the original thread and PM’s received. I've received no negative comments from any Kiwi's only an Englishman living in England (?).

Oh - and sincere apologies for dropping an H, back of the class for me. But then again - English is my second language.

With respect Daisy I merely replied to his original post in the same vein.I used to use a mainly Welsh forum and such banter is very much the British sense of humour, basically you give as good as you get and no offence is meant.I`d say he was just playing for a reaction, why else give everyone the impression that he was English in his first post?No-one bit, because they`ve heard it all before probably, so he tries again for a reaction with the Kiwi drivers comment.Nothing again so it`s Asian drivers where he actually says that he`s trying to stoke up some non-pc argument.Well that`s exactly what he got so why the tantrum? If he`d just stuck at the original point of his thread then just maybe I`d agree with what you`d said about his motives. As it is,nothing personal but if you cant handle it then dont give it out.

I can take it Moko don't worry, and I enjoy it. I'm surprised it took so long to come actually. I'm just a bit dissapointed that it had to be from an Englishman having a dig at the Welsh.

As for pretending to be English, erm, where? The term pom, to the best of my knowledge, refers to all Brits so I'm led to believe. Having been born in Wales to English parents. I lived in Englad for 31 years (I'm 34), so I think I qualify to call myself English if I so desired anyway, at least if you use the residency rules of the IRB.

I think he made it more than obvious that he was looking for a reaction, hence his repeated attempts at stirring us up.

Can't handle what exactly? Me? I'm fine thanks. If you're referring to Biff then I think you'll find you're doing exactly what he wants, biting. He was obviously looking for a reaction hence his repeated attempts at stirring us up. But why are you so wound up you're not even a Kiwi?

I just get the impression that you're another Englishman that likes having a go at other countries for the sake of it. I spent a year in the UK (England, Wales and Scotland) and was always amazed by the negative attitudes the English had of the Welsh, Scottish and Irish (not forgetting the French, Ozzies, Americans etc etc etc). I never heard a single negative comment coming from a Welshman aimed at the English unless provoked, where as the English peoples’ comments were pre-emptive. But I appreciate that you may think it's normal in forums in the UK. But we're the other side of the world. So there's no need to carry those negative views here. Play nice please.

    Not even one I'd say.

Mine were tongue in cheek too, though I don't do the smiley thing to point it out.

    Sorry if I offended thee.

Translation please?! Just so that I truly know that when I come round I'll at least get (pardon the upcoming bad spelling) Gely y Brekwas.
    - That's Welsh by the way; One of the oldest and purest languages in the world.
Or not. I'm sure that the Picards, the Bretons and the Basques and the Cornish would have problems with that. While it is certainly true that (modern)Welsh has not evolved _significantly_ for at least 8 centuries, there are varying amounts of Euskadi and Gallic influences (hence the name in French "Pays de Galles" or Country of the Gauls, because the language and influences were shared by those from the Basque regions up through France and out through Brittany, into Cornwall and Wales.)

    How many do you speak?
    5 linguistically recognised languages
    4 commonly recognised languages
somewhere in the region of 14 dialects.

But hey! Polyglotism tends to be a feature of peoples that are geographically isolated and they then become a minority in a larger linguistic region when they can break out of their isolation...

Returning to the linguistic point above, there are only 2 languages (correct me if I'm wrong MikeL - you've probably read it more recently) that are unrelated to any others... Finnish and Hungarian. Linguistically they are called the Finno-Ugric family of languages. A bit like saying "Well - Umm - we've got Forks, Knives, Spoons and Ummmm a category of cutlery called "Not Forks Knives or Spoons"... The members of the Finno Ugric langauges are also unrelated to one another! WEIRD!

Interestingly, the Icenae spoke a dialect of modern Welsh - and they are revered as the most British of Britons (what with Boadicea/Boudicea/Bodicca/Boadicca or however we are spelling HER name this year)....

As for a flag - I think that if NZ is to have a new flag (I'm in favour of it) it should be a Maori design with the Southern Cross on it. Either that or a portrait of Helen Clarke.

The translation is the same as my signature below - the top one. As for Gely Y Brekwas (??)- you're scaring me now - are you asking me for breakfast?!

Put a Breton a Cornish man and a Welshman in the same room and you'll find that if we all spoke our own languages we would all be able to understand one another. In fact Cornwall was part of Wales until around the 15 century. I've actually had a half decent conversation with a Bretton in our repsective own languages when I toured Brittanny last year.

So could you explain to Daisy that it`s very much a British thing to rip the piss out of each other, including the Welsh doing it to the English.I used to use Ridersite,a BB now sadly defunct and that was full of anti-Welsh,anti-English banter, all of it taken as it was intended, even plenty of Banter between the Cardiff lot and Swansea residents.A couple of Yanks used it and thought world war 3 was going to break out despite being reassured that it was all in fun. It`s part of British culture, maybe visitors dont understand our sense of humour,we`re a nation of piss-takers on a local, national, international and personal basis.
Good example,Plymouth is just over the river from Cornwall and there`s the usual exchange of friendly abuse hurled on a regular basis, this is a Cornish bloke`s answer to the stick he`s had from Plymouth,a bit dated but,and please note Daisy, everyone in Plymouth that`s seen it that I know thinks it`s hilarious.

    Marvelous.

With a bit of work, I could get that site re-written to do Upper Hutt Bogans.

You're only saying that because you know I'm listening Jim...
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

    lol. Very good link.

Moko's right Daisy, the English v Welsh, English v Scottish, English v Irish etc etc banter is age old. I suppose it goes back to the days when Brits travelled the world murdering foreigners and invading their land in order to steal resources. I know we do that today but in those days it was legal.

Today Brits resort to football violence(or poofball as it's called in Wales), verbal abuse, Play Station's and kicking the crap out of one another for no apparent reason. Oh and joining the yanks whenever there's some guaranteed action in some far flung overseas country that's never directly posed the UK any threat. Until now.

    It's a pom thing....
