The NZ Army doesn't swear allegiance to the Crown as it doesn't have a Royal warrant.

When I was sworn in 4 1/2 years ago, there was a choice of swearing on the bible to obey HM and those under her, or an affirmation for the non religious saying much the same thing. Dunno if its changed since then

You can always tell when a plane-load of Poms has arrived. The whining continues after the engines have stopped.

Where do you hide your money when there are Poms around? Under the soap.

How do you get a Pom out of the bath? Turn the tap on.

And, on the subject of flags, why can't the Brits invent their own, rather than nicking the top lefthand corner of ours?? Bastards!

    Etc.

Come on New Zealand - you're an independant country. Change your freakin flag and constituiton to show the world that you're a unique, self supporting country that has far more to offer than simple brown nosing the former British empire.

Oh - sorry - my mistake - I thought you were all Ozzies, well you're flag looks the same anyway.

It did though, because I had to swear to protect my queen and country (I think) Im pretty sure I did. Never mind, they gave me a rifle, made me a marksman and taught me how to blow up stuff.

I hate my knee!!!. I can still protect the queen.

Actually, they swear allegience to the Queen of New Zealand, who happens to be the Queen of England, too.

If we have to keep a monarchy, I reckon we should re-jig the succession and fight the Scots for Queen Anne.

Erm - Do I kinda get the feeling that there's a theme emergin here. Do Kiwi's believe that poms have an adversion to personal hygiene?

this is what it states on my commisioning parchment as the Navy is Royal. I like the defender of the faith bit.

That's why I never advertise that I'm an ex-Pom, albeit having lived longer here than in the UK

Back in the days of Pommie jokes I always liked - how do you get 20 Pom's into a Mini?...make one the foreman, the rest will crawl up his arse! In the 70s they came over on the $10 passage and took over our Unions, nearly bringing our country to it's knees with strikes. But they stopped wearing socks with their sandals and wearing ties in the workshop and turned into good kiwis who only winge some of the time.

Well I don't have a problem with the flag. An as for for our Constitution we have one. At least we still live under a Democracy where the majority rule. For those of you who do not know England got rid of an absolue monarchy when they chopped off Charlies head. All this thanks to Ollie Cromwell and his fighting Roundheads.

What the Republicans in this country do not tell you is the cost of a second House. Has any one thought why so many politicians want to go down this road. They want a seat in the senate, House of NZ, or whatever else some of these bozo's can think of.

Nothing in this country becomes law until sighned by the Govenor General. Compare the cost of this to a second house and you may want to think again.

I think the emphasis is on the word swear!

What is it with you imports and our flag.
You are the 3rd one this month to say change the flag.

If thats your biggest whinge, well.
Get over it, or find a country with a pretty little flag that you do like.
And hopfully you will like that country.

It's our flag, one one elses.
It may have some history on it, but thats all now days.
And that can never be changed, for the better or for the worst.
