Fairing heat protection

I sent a new set of fairings for my mc19 cbr250 in for painting last week and im expecting them back some time this week, my question is that i noticed the standard fairings had a sort of ugly lagging/heat foam on the panels that were close to the motor, i was wondering if i should put a similar thing on the ones i'll be getting back from paint? Anyone reckon there is a large risk of ruining my (soon to be) shiny new paint???

Yep. Frank (rg150) destroyed a perfectly good fairing by not having the heat proof thingie on. engine heat + plastic fairing = shrunken plastic mess

Just curious, where did you get your fairings from and how much were they? Mine has the same stuff on the inside of the fairing, a black dirty looking foam. To be honest, I doubt the inside of the fairings get very hot at all, never noticed it anyway. Air is flowing freely all throughout the inside fairings.

Hmmm..... heat protection sounds like a great idea! Anyone have ideas on where to get something to do the job? i was thinkin of lookin for the sort of stuff u find under car bonnets..

i got the fairings from good ol' trademe, so doubt you'll get the same deal as me, it was a $350 bargain of the century that i couldn't miss! i did all the prep work on them, so they were filled and primed and was riding round for a week or two with them on with no sign of heat damage.. even did a ride round town just to keep it friggin hot for ages! A couple spots only have about 5mm of clearance too.. still gonna get that heat protection anyway!

Come to think of it... it wouldn't have been engine heat.... Woulda been from the exhaust

Haha yea a hot exhaust would tend to do that

Guess i'll need more opinions because i don't wanna waste time putting some damn ugly heat protection crap on!

I'm pretty sure the exhaust isnt gonna cause me any fairing problems, mainly the heat radiating off the motor, gets pretty hot sometimes!

He means the exhaust wrap on the inside of the fairings, to protect from engine heat. Cut it off in strips and glue them on, I suppose.
