Hi, I signed up a while ago, and have joined in a few threads already. I realised that it's probably a little rude doing things "the wrong way round" so I'm making amends.....
My wife and I started riding AFTER we got married 25 years ago, when we did a deal with a guy who was boarding with us to swap a car we were going to sell for a GN250 he was going to sell. We both solved a problem! I got my license on the thing, then got rid of it as fast as I could. Most of my travel was open road (still is) and the GN was hopelessly out of its depth 2-up.
I replaced it with a Honda GL400 Wing, which was one of the Jap market specials Blue Wing Honda sold here in 1985. For a brand new 400, it was very good value. It was identical to the CX500 in every detail apart from the engine capacity, and went very well for 5,000km until it ran a main bearing. I lost faith in it, even though it was repaired under warranty, and sold it shortly after getting it back.
I bought my first BMW in early 1986, and it was very tired even though it was only ten years old. I tidied it up and used it for commuting to work for the next seven years until it finally came to the point where I either ditched it or fixed it properly. I couldn't bring myself to sell it, but...I never guessed it would take me fourteen years to get it back on the road. Guess some things take time....
It's nice to have it back on the road again. My wife has gone through a few bikes over the years too (although that's HER story!) and she is currently riding a late model Buell XB12S, and our daughter recently got a Suzuki FXR150 and is learning to ride. We've got a few project bikes tucked away too.
See you around.
